Hello Everyone, this is Drako speaking for SocialDissonance and MoisesL from the Well-Done Podcast and Capcom Unity.

All of you that have seen episode #50 or seen the update in your subscription feed should be aware of this new movement to get MHP3 localized. Know that the movement has the support of Capcom, and that with our co-operation it will probably be localized!

What we need to do is simple: Spread the word of Monster Hunter, and get Capcom's attention while doing so!

Just to have it in one place, here's what we need to do:

Post in the Unity Thread: http://bit.ly/odOXV5
    Like the Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/monsterhunter
Tweet to @_monster_hunter about #MHP3 and #monsterhunter on Twitter: http://twitter.com/#..._monster_hunter

The most important thing to do is post in the Unity thread. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G/Freedom Unite had a thread that ran for 4 months with people posting in it every day. There couldn't be a better thing for Capcom to see than a support thread for MHP3 right on their own forums.

Remember, both games (Unite & Tri) can be found for less than $20. Buying them new for a friend shows continued demand for the games, and gets another person into the series:

    Tri on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co...nster-Hunter-Tr ... 909&sr=8-1
    Unite on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co...nster-Hunter-Fr ... 921&sr=8-1

So please, for the sake of Monster Hunter's success in the west, spread these links and get to talking!

For more information, check out this video, Operation "Cherry Blossom" and remember to keep the posts directed toward the Unity thread, and to post there everyday!

Without the support of the fans, there may never be another Monster Hunter State-Side!

         Alatreon Clusting Guide

***This is currently a guide for Tri***

    [Intro]

Alatreon is the final Urgent of Monster Hunter Tri. You will be able to join the quest at HR 46, and receive the Urgent at HR 50. Alatreon is an elementally unstable monster, he can give you all types of blight except water. He can also easily kill you in two hits, and one-shot a gunner. Killing him will require you to know what works well against him, and what doesn't

    [Stats]

HP: 10000 (Equal to about 67 bombs)
    Paralysis Tolerance: 150 / 310 / 470 / 630 / 790 (Paralyzed for 15 seconds)

    KO Tolerance: 120 / 240 / 360 / 480 / 600 (KO'd for 15 seconds)

Damage Needed for Break (I may be wrong on a few)
    1st Horn = 1400HP (2 staggers, or about 12 LBB+)
    2nd Horn = 1400HP (2 staggers, or about 12 LBB+)
    Each Wing = 900HP? (3 Staggers, or 6 LBB+)

    Claws: 15 / 0 / 5 / 0 / 20

    [Moves]

    Ground:

Charge: this will do a lot of damage to you, and gives you dragonblight, which will KILL your damage output. He uses this move very frequently, and he may do a random turn, which can catch you off guard. Best to just block it or move out of the way

Jump Back -> Dive: This will also do a good deal of damage to you. Alatreon will jump back into the air, then dive at you. This is extremely difficult to evade. It's best to block it, or Panic Dive.

Fireball: Alatreon spits a fireball, which turns into a vortex. He can spit out the fireball at varying lengths, from right in front of his face, to 5 feet away. This move requires Guard up to block, so if you don't have that, roll / hop out of the way if you can. This move causes Fireblight.

Dragon Claw: This is a huge hazard. This move comes out of nowhere, has a large range, and causes dragonblight. It's best to block it, if you can, evade through it. He can do a devastating combo from this move. He will knock you away with the Dragon Claw, then throw a fireball on you as you get up, which is basically an instant kill. Be extremely cautious, always assume it's coming

Thunder "Taunt": Alatreon will gain thunder around his head, and shake his head back and forth. This attack can still damage you, so be careful

Roar: Alatreon Roars as the name implies. You need HGE to not be affected by it. Note, it's basically the shortest roar in the game, very easy to roll through, although it happens pretty abruptly.

    Flight:

Thunder Charge: Alatreon charges at you. This move comes at you extremely fast, but Alatreon gives a lot of warning before he does it. If you are near the charge but he misses you, you will be knocked over by the wind. If you do get hit, you will be inflicted with thunderblight.

Ice Summon: Alatreon spews an icy breath into the air, and 3 ice shards fall from the ground. It's pretty difficult to be hit by this. I believe it gives Iceblight

Ice Shard: Alatreon shoots a shard of ice. This will inflict you with Iceblight

Thunder Scratch: This attack hits hard and is pretty frustrating. Alatreon will claw at you (Like a Rathalos Poison Scratch) about 3-5 times. It's easy to be combo'd by this. This will give you thunderblight if you are hit.

Frost Breath: Alatreon will release a frosty breath onto the ground, sweeping side to side. This move does minimal damage, but it does give you "snowman" and iceblight. Block it, or just dive/run away from it.

Ice Rain: The signature move of Alatreon. He taunts a bit, then flies over to one side of the area. He will then breathe a frosty breathe into the air, and ice shards will rain everywhere. This is easy to avoid, just run around like a madman. He will always come back to land in the same place, and it's a good opportunity to get in some free hits

[Recommended Equipment] Blue means HR 51+ Equipment

    Armor:

    Blademaster:

    Rathalos+
Skills: Critical Eye +2, Heat Cancel (Hi), Mind's Eye, Defense Down (S)
Slots: 6, one triple, three single
Gemming: Gem in Critical Eye+3, Gem out Defense Down Small, and gem in basically any other skill you want if you have the appropriate charm

Rathalos+ is great for this. For one, you'll have Critical Eye+3, which will increase your damage output by a pretty amount. It also comes with Mind's Eye (AKA ESP), which will prevent you from bounding off of Alatreon's Wings when he is tripped or KO'd. It also offers Heat Cancel Hi, so you won't have to bring cool drinks, and you won't take the annoying magma damage, which is also nice

Agnaktor+ Or Just Low Rank Agnaktor Upgraded if you already have it
Skills: Guard +2, Flaming Aura, Razor Sharp, Short Sprinter
Slots: 9, two triple, one double, two single
Gemming: MAKE SURE to gem in Guard Up, Short Sprinter is there to stay, impossible to gem out, other than that you can try to go for another skill if you have a good enough charm

Agnaktor, Low Rank or High Rank (Low Rank gives Guard+2, Guard Up, and Flaming Aura) is an absolute must for Lance and Sword n Shield users. If you are using High Rank Agnaktor armor, you absolutely MUST gem in Guard Up. This will let you counter Alatreon's fireballs, if not you'll be getting thrown round constantly. And, Agnaktor+ offers a whopping 9 slots, which is always nice

    Helios Mix:
    Helios Helm+
    Helios Mail+
    Helios Vambraces+
    Helios Waist
    Vangis Greaves

Skills: Handicraft+1 (Needs one Handicraft), HGE
    Slots: 6, both triple
Gemming: The one slot for Sharpnes+1, and then basically any +10 skill you want

This is a very classic mix of Helios. It gives you Sharpness+14, and HGE, with two triple slots.

    Gunner:

    Uragaan+
Skills: Defense Up (S), Recoil Down +2, Bombardier, Slow Eater
Slots: 9, two triple, three single
Gemming: Gem in Recoil Down+3, Gem out Slow Eater, and gem in a higher level of defence up, or gem in status attack up

Obviously this is the way to go if you want to status Alatreon as a Gunner, which, at this point, is the only way to go. Regular Bowgun shots barely tickle Alatreon, and you won't have the equipment necessary to clust spam him. Find a bowgun that works well for you, and use it!

    Weapons:

    Great Sword:
    Epitath or High Siegmund
    Anguish (P), or Alatreon Revolution

    Sword n Shield:
    Nardebosche
    Alatreon Star

    Hammer:
    Pulsating Core or Devil's Due
    Devil's Crush (P)

    Lance:
Sabertooth (G) (Don't settle for anything else)

    Switch Axe:
    Amber Hoarfrost
    Black Harvest

    Long Sword:
    Shadowbinder (P), Tenebra (needs Awaken)
Dark Claw "Demise", or Barbarian Sharq (P)

Bowgun: Any combination that fits your liking

    [What to Bring] *Recommended

    Cool Drinks
    Dragonfell Berries
    Hunting Horn*
    Lifepowders
    Smoke bomb*
    Flash Bombs
    Farcaster*
    Large Barrel Bombs*
Energy Drinks / Mega Juice / Steaks
    Max Potion / Ancient Potion

Cool Drinks are obviously because the area is hot. Dragonfell berries are incredibly vital. If you just keep your dragonblight, your damage output will go down significantly. The Hunting Horn is used to get Alatreon stuck in the wall. Climb up, toot that horn, and Alatreon will be stuck in no time. Smoke Bombs are used to be avoided by Alatreon in the very beginning, so you can eat your steaks and cool drinks. Have it listed as the very first item in your pouch, it must be used immediately. Flash Bombs are required to bring, especially for melee runs. It is used to take Alatreon out of the air. It needs to land directly in front of Alatreon's face. It will take two flash bombs to take him out of flight mode. Since you can't enter base camp any other way, you must use a farcaster. Best used when you're almost dead. Obviously Large Barrel Bombs never hurt anyone. Best used on the wings when Alatreon is tripped, or on the horns when Alatreon is stuck on the wall. Energy Drinks / Mega Juice / Steaks are obviously needed. You don't get supply items so you'll need stamina recovery items. Max Potion / Ancient Potion are definitely needed. If you die, and you have 100HP, you can be one-shot

    [Strategies]

    By Weapon:

Great Sword: The Great Sword has the easiest time hitting the tail. About 3/4 of the way down the tail, it droops down. Simply run in, and do a quick draw on the tail. Obviously Critical Draw works great here. Quick Drawing will be almost the only thing you're doing. Punish Draw is also a good skill to bring. Great sword also works great for hitting the head. Run in after Alatreon does a fireball, do a quick draw with Critical and Punish Draw, and you'll definitely help out your hammer user tremendously. When you do get a chance to get off Charges, when Alatreon is KO'd or Tripped, it's best to hit the neck. You can hit the head, but you may miss. The neck is the second weakest part of Alatreon, and it's basically a sure-hit. If you know Alatreon is turning, you can start your charge in between his back legs, and you'll most likely end up hitting the chest.

Sword and Shield: The sword and shield is obviously great for tripping Alatreon. You can basically stay under Alatreon and just go to town on his legs. I recommended bringing Guard Up so you can block Fireballs. When he is tripped, it's best not to anywhere near the head, you'll be tripping the hammer A LOT and you'll just ruin his day. I also urge you to bring lifepowders, and preferably combinations to make more. It's very easy to quick fire a lifepowder with your weapon out if a team-mate is in trouble. If you can make the grace earring, it will work great to keep dragonblight off the people who forgot theres, and you can also heal your teammates, and buff them at will.

Hammer: Obviously one of the most difficult weapons to use on Alatreon. The hammer user can make our break a team. It's pretty difficult to break the horns with one Hammer. It's best to get a hammer bro and double team him. I can not stress how important it is to bring HGE against Alatreon. If you bring a purple sharpness hammer, Alatreon will KO in two superpounds. If there are 2 Purple Sharpness Hammers with HGE, and they Superpound Alatreon after he roars in the very beginning, Alatreon will immediately KO. Focus is a GREAT asset here, you will be able to land 3 superpounds on the head when Alatreon is KO'd, instead of two. Also, if Alatreon spams Fireballs, you will be able to do continuous superpounds, instead of upswing charges. Now let's go over the best opportunities to hit the head. The Fireball is the easiest way to hit the horns. Alatreon will shoot a fireball, and leave his head out, leaving it open for a superpound. Next is the Thunder Taunt, he will shake his head, and again leave it out afterwards for an easy superpound. The next is the Roar, he will roar, and as he comes down, his head will dip down toward the floor, leaving it open for a superpound. Next is when he lands after doing the Ice Rain attack. As he lands, he will dip his head down toward the ground. This needs great timing, the head won't stay down as long as after Alatreon Roars. Lastly is getting Alatreon stuck in the wall. If you climb on top of one of the walls, and then use a hunting horn, Alatreon will charge at you and get his horns stuck in the wall. Use the Triplepound here, and do a quick charge to chain it over and over. Note that if you don't stagger him after a certain period of time, he will break free and destroy the wall. Also note he will stop getting stuck once his horns are broken. Let's go over how to hit the head when Alatreon is KO'd. You have two options, risky with more damage, or safe with a little less damage. You can go the safe way and superpounds. Alatreon swings his head in an arch. Stand at the bottom of the arc, and aim for his chin sorta. You should hit the head every single time. The other way is to stand in the same spot, and triple pound. Just try to have the golf swing hit the head. Pick whatever suits you better. Now let's talk about the "Modes" that Alatreon goes through, and how it will change your strategy and mindset

Ground Mode 1: Alatreon will start off in this. He will seem calm, and will mostly Fireball, and Charge, with occasional Jump Backs and Dragon Claws. This is the easiest mode to fight him against. All the Fireballs will let you get in a lot of superpounds

Ground Mode 2: Alatreon will enter this seemingly randomly. He will take a shorter time in between attack, and will spam charges, fast dragon claws, and Jumpbacks, and will rarely do fireballs. There's almost nothing you can do here. The best thing to do is get him stuck in the wall, which is very easy to due the constant charges. It seems like he exits this mode after a certain amount of damage, but it may be time based, or just straight up random. When it is over, just go back to your old plan

Flight Mode: Absolutely nothing you can do here. You can superpound his head from on top of a wall, but it's a great way to break it. Just flash Alatreon to get it over with, or just be a hammer bro and hammer his toe.

Lance: Definitely one of the easiest weapons to use against Alatreon. All you need is Guard Up, Guard+2, and you'll be set. It's actually pretty good to at the very least help the hammer help the break the horns. Every single time Alatreon fireballs, you can easily counter it, and easily get off a 3 poke combo. It's also great for damaging the wings. When Alatreon is tripped, or KO'd, if you charge toward the front part of the wing, you charge in place and do decent damage. If you keep on it, you can break one wing, which is all you need for a chance of a webbing. Just assume that the Dragon Claw is coming, and counter everything.

Switch Axe: Not really a recommended weapon for Alatreon. It's mobile, but has no block. You have to always assume that Alatreon will turn and Dragon Claw you, or Jump Back Charge. It is however okay for working on the wings, due to built in ESP in sword mode. Remember: in Axe Mode, never use the infinite combo, and in sword mode, use the vertical slashes, and finish off the gauge whenever possible. Just remember to stay AWAY from the head, you'll ruin the hammer users day by tripping him

Long Sword: Play this weapon exactly the same as a Switch Axe. It is however easier to draw, and faster than the switch axe in sword mode. Again, always assume the Dragon Claw or Jump Back Charge is coming. It's best to go for trips with this weapon, staying under the legs, and hacking away. When Alatreon is tripped, you can to spirit combos on the wing to do some damage. Just remember to stay AWAY from the head, you'll ruin the hammer users day by tripping him constantly.

Bowgun: Alatreon takes extremely little little damage from bowgun shots. You have two options when it comes to gunning him. 1: Status Alatreon. 2: Clust Alatreon's Wings. For Statusing Alatreon, bring whatever combination of Bowgun parts gives you the best combination of status. If you have to, I recommend you sacrifice loading level 1 paralyze shot. You can only bring 12 lvl Paralyze level 1 shots, but you can bring 12 Sleep shot lvl 1's, and combos to make 10 more. Note that to Paralyze or Sleep Alatreon for the first time, it takes 4 lvl 2 shots. After that, it will take about 7-9 depending on how long you take. IF you go quick enough, you can get off 3 sleeps, and 2 para's. Don't try for a 3rd Para, it probably won't happen unless your teammates bring you combos. Note that to not have recoil on lvl 1 shots, you need "Some" recoil, for no recoil on lvl 2 shots, you need "Min" recoil. Now let's go over what your pouch should contain if you are statusing Alatreon.

    Combo books 1-4
    Sleep Herb x10
    Sleepyfish x10
    Parashroom x10
    Para Shot lvl 1
    Para Shot lvl 2
    Sleep Shot lvl 1
    Sleep Shot lvl 2
    Any other Shots you load
Large Barrel Bomb+ (Assume Alatreon will Sleep 3 times)
    Large Barrel Bomb

If you plan on Clusting Alatreon, I recommend you skip down and see the Alatreon Clusting Tutorial for more info on four-man clusting. If you're doing it solo, just remember to bring minimum recoil, try to bring a gun that loads 3 clust lvl 2, and bring 50 bone husk S, and 50 Wyvern Claws.

    Alatreon Clusting Guide:

So, what Equipment/Items do you need to perform this?

    Gun Setup:
Rathling+ Barrel (One gun will have Blizzard cannon frame)
    Rathling+ Frame
    Agnablaster Stock

Don't ask me what shots it has, for our purposes you just need to know it shoots 5 Clust lvl 2, and 2 Poison lvl 2 (After load up/Clust S all up).

    Armor:
    Barrage Earring
    Mutsu+
    Mutsu+
    Mutsu+
    Mutsu+

    OOO or recoil+4 Charm

Decorations: 2 ClustPlus gems, 3 Absorber gems, 2 Flinchfree gems

Skills: Recoil Down+3, Load Up, Clust S All Up

    Items:

    Book of Combos 1
    Book of Combos 2
    Book of Combos 3
    Book of Combos 4
    Book of Combos 5
    Cool Drink x5
    Potion x10
    Large Barrel Bomb x2
    Large Barrel Bomb+ x2
    Small Bone Husk x99
    Wyvern Claw x50
    Flash Bomb x5
    Hunting Horn x1
    Demon Flute

    Ammo:

    Clust lvl 2 x5
    Poison lvl 2 x8
    Sleep Shot lvl 2 x8

*Make sure Clust lvl 2 is at the top of your speed combo list*

    Walkthrough:

Go over the plan with your teammates, and decide who will flash bomb Alatreon (more on that later).

You obviously spawn with Alatreon right in front of you. Immediately after you spawn, lay down 2LBB's right where you are.

*IF YOU ARE NOT FLASH BOMBING*

After you set the bombs, run to the wall, do not drink a cool drink. Count to 3 in your head. On three, roll. This prevents you from getting the shudder animation when Alatreon spots you. Keep running for a bit, and as soon as you start doing the panic run, dive through Alatreon's scream. Once everyone gets to the wall, set your LBB+ at the spot where you climb (try to stack them, don't worry about detonating them, the clust's bomblets will). Climb the wall. If you are lucky and Alatreon is within range of a Poison shot, everyone shoot a poison shot, this will poison him. Load your Clust lvl 2 and then use your hunting horn (The flash bomber should arrive by now)

    *IF YOU ARE FLASH BOMBING*

After everyone has set their bombs, set a small barrel bomb and step away. Drink a cool drink, and wait until after Alatreon roars. Immediately after, flash bomb him. You are then on a mad-dash to the wall. Once you get there, set your LBB+ where your teammates did and climb the wall Immediately use the demon flute, and then load your clust lvl 2

    After that...

The craziness begins. Alatreon will charge the wall and immediately get stuck. For the person who has the Blizzard Cannon, put Alatreon to sleep the FIRST time he hits the wall. If done right, his head will land right where you layed down your bombs. Detonate the bombs as soon as he hits the ground with a normal shot lvl 1. Be really quick to reload, Alatreon will scream when he wakes up. After that Alatreon will keep getting stuck in the wall. Start spamming clust lvl. 2. Shoot your clusts on his back in between his wings. Basically just keep repeating this.

    A few guidelines:

DO NOT SHOOT ALATREON'S HORNS. The bomblets will shoot right back at you and shoot you and your teammates off the wall
Try to stay on the very right of the wall. If someone does hit the horns and everyone goes flying, there's an invisible wall to keep you from flying off the side, unlike the left side, where it's easier to fly off.
If you can't hit Alatreon's wings, hit his belly/legs
Stay near the back of the wall. This way a bomblet can't land behind you and launch you forward.
If Alatreon's legs happen to break and he falls over, and you have to get to the edge of the wall to hit him, walk forward, don't roll. Yes, this is likely to happen to you. Kinda tough to remember this in the middle of the madness, but people do roll off alot.
Give your teammates space. Yes, if you accidently shoot a teammate bomblets will come off and you will all go flying.
Whoever is detonating the bombs after Alatreon sleeps, make sure to shoot just to the side of the bombs.
Hopefully, this helps you to kill Alatreon very quickly and efficiently. Practice makes perfect. This is a great way of grinding HR and farming for timeworns in case you were wondering, and it will only take you about 2:00 Good Luck :]

  3. The Most Annoying Online Weapon

    15 July 2011 - 12:09 AM

All right, this is simple, vote for what you think is the most annoying weapon that people use during online play. Whether for constant launching, tripping, or general misuse, just give a reason along with what you voted.

I vote LongSword because of constant tripping, and there's only one way to use it, spamming the spirit combo over and over again.

    Now it's time for...

    A Minegarde Call to Action...

Are longsword users annoying you constantly online? Do you need something to call them, which will also deeply confuse them?
    INSTEAD OF CALLING THEM STEVES.
...Call them LongSword Larry. Over, and over, and over, and over again. They will mostly likely respond with "?", "wut", or "My name isn't Larry"
It's like Steving people but funnier
  4. The Pandox Hunter's Guide

    03 July 2011 - 06:57 PM

Well, here it is guys, a Monster Hunter Portable 3rd Hunter's Guide written by Pandox. It is a collection of knowledge, all done from scratch, no copy pasting involved, and it will serve as a resource for everyone to have all the information that you need in one place. You can check out my My Tri Advanced Hunter's Guide if you are interested in that.

Also, if we can get this pinned like my Tri guide, that would be great

So, in order for this guide to be completed, we ask that members can help in writing some of the sections, and I will edit it in, and give you credit for the section. It's really primitive right now, but we're hoping that we can really complete this eventually

    Status Report:

Monster Strategies is 75%, missing monsters, want to add high rank videos / Equipment Recommendations
Weapons: 60%, anything I could copy from my tri guide is there, so its not up to date, the non-tri weapons are missing info, need to do recommendations,
Armor: 70%: Blademaster is basically complete, gunner is completed up to rare 2
Quest Listings: 0%, at this point, I would feel as if I were copying KidImposter even if I don't, I need to think of how I'm going to do that
Arena Strategies:0%, This is gonna be done last unless someone else does it
Yukumo Farm / Felyne Comrades: 100%, but extra comrade strategies are always welcome!

I refer you to our video thread, and our YouTube Channel, PandoxMH
  5. The PandoxMH Video Thread

    03 July 2011 - 06:56 PM

Hello everyone, we the members of Pandox, now have a channel on YouTube

We have just recently gotten it up and running, and we'll be posting videos here, but we hope you check out our actual channel PandoxMH What sets us apart from everyone else is that we will have so many people uploading, (in theory). Myself, Muramasa, One, SemajChaos, Molo hopefully, CrossXChaos and Chaa if they can get stuff working. We are also not trying to be elitists, because we're not. We're displaying the simplest and easiest ways to kill monsters with level appropriate equipment
We hope we can get some feedback from you guys, possibly requests, aka <insert monster> with <insert weapon>
So with that, here are some videos
