"Delicate Procedure II" (Complete)
12 May 2012 - 03:09 AM
This is a short Monster Hunter fan fiction story of mine.
It's sort of a spiritual successor to the first "Delicate Procedure," which... Is no longer online, due to the hosting website going down.
It follows the same Wyverian from "Bad Neighbors," though I think it's a little less comedic.
The whole story will take place overmultiple chapters, though I'm not sure of how many. Probably not too manyfour chapters, altogether about 6,700 words.
This chapter is about 1,300 words. I don't remember exactly how many hours I spent, but at least three.
Enjoy. Hope you'll comment. Constructive criticism is appreciated, as well as any spelling or grammar errors.

"Very Difficult" Free Form Vs. Kushala Daora Sign Up
10 May 2012 - 12:41 AM
I alluded to this earlier in a few other places I think.
A short while back I did another one of my 'free form experiments.' Here is the thread.
It was basically just a fight with a monster, however I tried to make things 'very' difficult. There ended up being four players deaths, and it took fourteen pages for the one monster.
The players really seemed to enjoy the level of difficulty, as it seemed to make them have to think. I had fun playing a moderately intelligent monster as well (threw sand in people's eyes, used dead people as weapons and shields).
They actually requested more of it (without being asked), so here it is.
At the moment, I'm just seeing how many people are interested. It'll determine what's fought and what equipment is allowed (probably an elder dragon).
I'm gonna hold off on the finer details of how it'll work until later.
Naturally, this will be free form.
There is a STRONG possibility that you will die in this RPG, and/or be embarrassed, and everything in between. You're basically signing a waiver.
As a bit of a disclaimer about the difficulty level:
I try to be fair and logical with what I have happen. The players from before seem to agree that I did this.
I try not to be biased or have objectives. I'm not thinking "I gotta kill at least two people." However, I have no qualms in killing people, even if they don't particularly deserve it.
It's an inherent issue that free form is reliant on my judgement. My judgement is not perfect. You might get killed because of it, which could be considered unfair. Be aware.
I try to help players out where I can. I generally assume you would try to dodge or block when attacked, or not attack if it looks really bad. This only goes so far though.
I'm basically trying to let everyone know what they're getting into so no one is upset, despite me having you sign a waiver.
So just let me know if you're interested, and any questions you might have. -
Whodunit RPG Sign Up
30 April 2012 - 12:53 AM
This is for the whodunit RPG. If you don't know what a whodunit is, basically there is a murder and everyone has to figure out who did it.
This will be free form, as in no real system. How things turn out (if you stab someone, what damage is done, if you try to sneak, if it works or not) will be determined by me.
This will take place in the Monster Hunter world. However, this will have to do with detective like stuff, not hunting monsters and the like.
It is very possible for your character to die during this RPG. Be warned.
The first step before anything else can be done is to get your characters made.
Please post here just to let everyone else know you're participating, but send me a private message for your character creation.
It is very likely that I will add and possibly change little things about your character. If there's something you really don't want, we can figure something out (shouldn't be an issue though).
I'm going to need a killer. In your private message, tell me whether or not you'd like to be the killer (or volunteer). Obviously, this is a much riskier role.
Not everyone is going to be chosen, so you may want to hold off on making your character.
These are some key things you should probably mention in your character profile.
Name
Age
Height
Race
General Physique
Facial Details
Hair Details
Outstanding Features
Occupation
Potential hobbies or side jobs
Noteworthy items
Back story (childhood, midlife, recently)
With physical stuff, the more details the better.
Any age and race is fine.
Back story is very important.
With items, I'm not going to be very strict. Chances are I'll let you take something even if you forgot to mention it, as long as it makes sense and is fair.
Being a monster hunter is fine, it can fit in, but other occupations like business men, actors, doctors, etc. etc. etc. have their place here. However, if you are a monster hunter, I'm gonna limit you to low rank.
My on a whim opinion (as in, at the moment) is that unique and creative occupations would be more interesting. Try to spruce things up a little.
Your occupation will warrant you some skills and knowledge. This is going to be very loose, as this is free form. There won't be any hard list.
No magic stuff.
Before anyone asks, I do not know the exact setting or who the victim will be, or any other details really. I'm waiting on your characters first. -
"Bad Neighbors" (Complete)
28 April 2012 - 03:04 AM
This is a comedic short Monster Hunter fan fiction story I just wrote. Took about two hours total to write and revise. It's a little more than a page on word (single spaced, 12 font), about 640 words.
I don't know if people still read or write short stories or fan fiction around here. It seemed like very little. I suppose I'm testing the waters before doing anything else.
Anyway, enjoy.
Hope you'll comment.
Feel free to leave constructive criticism.

New RPG Development (Voice your Opinion)
25 April 2012 - 06:56 PM
As everyone might know, I've been planning to do something big. Now that school is done for awhile, it is time.
I presume it will be in a Monster Hunter setting, just because that's something everyone is familiar to, likes, etc.
I intend to use the Unknown Armies system for this and probably the second Monster Hunter mod (if not the first).
My current idea is to follow a "from humble beginnings" theme. Players start out at a modest level and have to work their way up, etc.
The growth rate would probably be considerably small. As a result, this would be a long term RPG. I suppose how long it goes depends on player interest and how good the RPG is.
If you all agree on a setting different than Monster Hunter (even if it's just 'not Monster Hunter'), I have no qualms with a different setting.
Similarly, if the "from humble beginnings" theme isn't desirable, that can change, as can the intended duration of the RPG (perhaps you all are low level, but remain such throughout the RPG, perhaps the RPG is only short term).
The use of the system is less up for debate.
After the 'from humble beginnings' idea is where I get stumped, or am not sure what you guys would prefer.
One idea is to have a very Monster Hunter focused RPG.
Some example of RPG's I think had this style would be; Old Minegarde, Felyne's Envoy, Megaman Zero (in style at least), Desert Wyvern Egg, Frozen Hallucinations, Holgarde - Day One (some of these you may not be familiar with).
Most likely, everyone would be on the same side in this type. Keeping people in frequent contact with one another I think would be easier as well.
Though this type does have the potential for role playing, I think it would be less of a focus. Plot I think would follow the same path.
The other idea is to have a more... social oriented RPG, for lack of a better description.
Some examples of RPG's I think were like this would be Maskata and Duvessa.
Role playing would be more important here. Plot has more of a chance as well.
Players could be things other than monster hunters, and/or take multiple roles.
Having people on different sides is more possible here. A concern is though, with people potentially divided up, you may be stuck with just a couple or one other PC, or even alone (I'd try to prevent this from happening). If everyone were on the same side though, or the sides were limited and equal, this would be less of a concern.
In any case, having a plot that lasts the duration of your growth can be difficult (I imagine it takes years for a Monster Hunter to rank up).
One solution is to just have a bunch of mini-plots.
Time skips may get mixed in somehow.
Having players after one another can make it hard to progress up the ranks as well, considering if each side really wants the other side dead, someone is likely to die.
So that's about all I have to throw out onto the table for now. Offer opinions, present ideas, etc. etc. I'm hoping for you guys to build this RPG into what you want it to be.
