Despite my ranting, I gave it another few shots. I want to enjoy something if I can.
6 encounters in, every one I died from a backstab.
Some dude in the Kiln of the Flame place "backstabbed" me from the front. I don't know how he did it. It wasn't a riposte because I had my shield up and wasn't even attacking. He just walked up to me with his shield up, while facing me, slow motion, I heard that "backstab sound", saw some lightning sparks and I fell over dead.
For real this time. I'm leaving my internet off.
This is so fucking retarded. -

I disagree. I've been invaded 3 times, and backstabbed 3 times. You're not going to convince me of something different when my total 100% experience says otherwise. Technically, the more is there... You might be a gentleman and actually fight me....
...or you might take one look at my equipment and opt out to be cheap. That's probably what's happening...

Any comments I have toward anything broken on Dark Souls have completely to do with multiplayer. As far as I'm concerned, the actual game itself is flawless.
Jask, on 21 May 2012 - 07:52 PM, said:"Don't like it, stay hollow" isn't an excuse, it's the function that the developers put in for the people that don't want to deal with PvP. By playing offline you're missing out on things, not just PvP, but co-op and other non-aggressive features. When you don't go human all you miss out on is summoning and invasions.
You have to be human to get the weapon Grant, Butcher Knife, the Thorn armor Set shield and sword, the Sunlight armor shield and weapon, to kindle bonfires, the human specific dialogues from NPCs... I could go on...
Saying all I miss out on is summoning and invasions is incorrect.
The bottom line is, I have to minimize my exploration and collections because of some online assholes. My options are to shut off my internet to explore in a natural game, or not go human while my wifi is humming away.

If you run away from a mob, it will chase you and quite possibly stab you in the back. If you run away from a player, the same thing will happen, they're just smarter about it (usually). If you pull out a bit of courage and take a stand against either, you might just have a chance.
The closest I come to running is taking a steb back to take a swig of estus. I don't run from anything or anyone.
The problem is, enemies by bonfire A don't seek me out to kill me while I'm at bonfire B minding my own business. Players do.
The problem is, if someone/something sneaks up on me, I die instantly. Enemies that jump me from behind, at least I have a fighting change. (fighting being the keyword - backstabbing someone with no notice is hardly a fight) -

Jask, on 17 May 2012 - 01:04 AM, said:Yes, being invaded when you're unwilling can be a pain, especially when they're being cheap bastards, but when you're willing or ready, it can be fun. There's a reason the game has such a large PvP base. Get the hang of the game, get some good gear, and give it a chance, maybe even summon someone to join in. I recommend most people give invading a try or two. You might like it. Too many people have a bad experience or two with it (especially with what happened to the Burg) and write it off as terrible, without giving it a chance to show its good sides. Yes, there are dickwraiths, but there are also people who will bow and wait for you to do the same, even giving you a chance to use weapon coatings and finish off the mob you're fighting. You also shouldn't do something foolish like much about in your inventory screen when you know there's an invader about. Oh, and you can rake in massive souls and humanity from it too.
I fail to see how PVP can be fun for anyone unless they enjoy backstabbing people while the unsuspecting are minding their own business.
"Don't like it, stay hollow" just seems like an excuse for gameplay that's broken.
No sir, if I don't like it, I'll be disconnecting my internet.
Don't get me wrong. I love Dark Souls. Its my favorite modern game.
What I don't like is assholes ruining my game experience just so they can get off.

This should not happen. -

Right. Well, I turned off my PS3's internet today.
I was making a transaction with the Giant Blacksmith and got the message about being invaded. I did catch the word Gravelord in the prompt.
I assumed that since I was interacting with an NPC, that the invader wouldn't be cheap enough to kill me while I was in the blacksmith menus.
I was wrong.
I totally got backstabbed... for the second time encountering an online player.... dropped 30,000 and kicked right into the blacksmith's work bench. The player had a red glow this time.
FUCK PVP. -

I don't think the person that invaded me was a Gravelord servant.
I saw nothing mentioning Nito or Gravelord, the invader had a blue glow. I didn't summon him.
