So recently I have been able to get on Kai and go on some hunts on various monsters.

But one thing that bothers me is that most of the time, me and the people I play with spam flash+traps most of the time.

This isn't a problem since it gets the job done, but im curious as to how you hunt monsters in a group.

Share your ideas please

Personally, I hardly ever use flash bombs. I just don't like the feel of fighting most monsters while they're flashed. Most of the people I play with tend to feel the same. We'll just go in and fight. Hammer users will go for the head, GS and LS users will go for the tail, people go for weak points. I usually bring some lifepowders to help out.

Yeah, I know what you mean. They even spam flash and traps even when you explicitly title your room: "no flash and traps".

Anyway, when I get together with the people I usually play with on kai, it's often normal no-flash-and-trap runs. On occasion though, we do various challenges such as:

  • no weapon sheathing
  • Pogi (handsome) sets only
  • One monster - one weapon type
  • Starter weapons only

Etc. Anything we can think of to make the run more difficult and/or funny.

On occasion, we do "speed runs" with traps allowed, still no flashes.

I normally only hunt with one person. So it depends on the monster we're hunting. Generally, we can both take offensive weapons - he usually uses a longsword, anyway. And managed to solo most of the monsters. It's almost a single weapon run - almost, but not quite. Depending on the monster, I'll use something different, mostly duals though.

HOWEVER, maybe in a group it'd be different. For one, I'm not too bad at using Hunting Horns, so I might lug that along. Also, presumably there would be a lot of offensive juggernauts running hammer and GS. So I might pull an LBG with Sleep S to let that King Attilart Sword land a +3 on the weak.

We usually issues different roles for each person. like there have to be at least 2 clusters at White Fata farming, bring at least one hammer to KO and one GS to cut tails or there is one with HH and paralysis SnS which makes the battles really fun. (I just did 4-men team play that brought down Ukanlos like.. less than 4 mins XD)

The one that determines how fast and fun the hunt is the group coordination, not just with their equipments.

Back when I used to play this, I normally ended up doing the most damage regardless of what weapon type that I used, as I aimed for the strongest combos; my friends usually didn't.

They couldn't aim flash bombs for the life of them, so whenever a flash was absolutely needed (like on akantor opening charge) I would be the flasher.

I only used my traps for capturing, and lifepowders when multiple partners and or myself were low health.

I don't play any differently online than I do off. I don't flash spam, and I don't trap spam either. In fact, I don't think I've ever actually placed a trap to hold something still...barring Tiggy. <_<
I never cared about justice and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero... I have always only fought for the people I believe in. If an enemy appears in front of me, I will destroy it!

It usually starts with us trapping the monster, we circle it and then kick it. repeat until all traps are gone.

Then we begin the flashing phase. We flash it, we then start to shadowbox its legs, repeat until the flash supplies are gone and then we use all of our smoke bombs to cover the whole area.

After the humiliation phase is over, we fight the monster. The humiliation weigh heavily on the monster's morale through the entire fight, resulting in a decrease in its morale which then reduces its will to live therefor reducing the amount of very potent attack the monster might be carrying in its arsenal.

This technique is quite useful for the likes of Plessy or even Black Gravios. For it neutralizes the hipchecks and laser spam as well as increasing the drop rates for wyvern sobs or tears.

I hit the monster until it's dead, and try not to get hit myself.

If I'm playing with friends there's normally no need to plan ahead. Most of the people I used to play with were really good at knowing where to hit with what, and how to not get hit.
That said, I normally would stick to dealing elemental damage while using items to support the group. I fancied myself good with the SnS in Tri.

I've only played with two friends and I'm just there for support since both of them are lower hr than me. I make them do all the work or I'll just try gs charges only, etc. Try to handicap myself basically. Because right now they're stuck on hr6 urgent. It's funny, cause I'll kill one tigrex by myself (thank god for g rank weps) and by the time I go to their area, they try and try, but just die.

Besides that I play normally, no flashes or traps, unless my friends wanna cap for more mats. They're newbs cause I hr rushed them. :b but they're getting better.

i like to support where im not great at the monster we are hunting, bow, hh etc then LS everything else cause i find that the most fun weapon to play with. i HATE people who cant use hammers properly and keep knocking you into the air when your trying to attack, its like the monster is huge, can you NOT hit another area??

Firstly I tell everyone in the room to not bring flash bombs, to save them for another time. I bring whatever weapon I feel like using, not the one that is best in the situation.
I try to make sure nobody dies in the quest.

I haven't played online in a long time, but the last things I did was teaching new hunters some basics.
I remember helping BizzarreCoyote to kill many Tigrex back then. (don't say)
So yeah I play the most only to teach hunter how to hunt properly.

My friends and I are each only skilled in one type of weapon, so we just bring in our favorite weapons and it's kinda natural. Usually those with certain types of weapons will know where to strike. We've been playing together for 2 years so we kinda get it.
Usually there's one guy who doesnt attack with a HH and Wide Area +2 and all other health and boost items so it's helpful. The same guy has traps and flash so he can use it when we need it. Like when we're using whetstone in front of a tigrex, he'll flash and we'll get doing. Playing in multiplayer is real fun if you actually came up with real strategies to tackle the certain problems in quests.

Ah, yeah, I remember that Aegid. I was trying to farm for Tiggy S, gave up when I couldn't find the last Rare Scarab I needed, and built Los Soul U instead. I found the last Rare Scarab I needed literally next quest, and built Tiggy S anyway.

Anywho, I've actually gotten the hang of blocking fireballs and the like for Gunners, saving them from an especially messy end. I've also gotten into lancing, thanks to Tri, though I still habitually press Triangle+Forward occasionally, causing me to guard poke and get wrecked like the n00b I am. I'm getting better though.

I usually just go with weapon in hand and just hack n slash at the monster. I normally don't bring traps/flashes unless directed to.
I pay attention to who/how I attack so I won't end up knocking away my team mates. But...I usually end up at the end of EVERYONE ELSES' attacks...because they act like I'm not even there <_<

I use lifepowders sparringly on my team mates.

When everyone goes; "Gj" or "gg" or "good hunt" etc, at the end of every hunt, I usualy just sit there quietly..

I tend to want to be one of the main attackers of the group.

Hardly plays support role as I do not like Hunting Horns. I'll use them its just I don't like them.

Doesn't mess with armor/demon flutes.

When people wanna capture a monster, I race them to see if I can kill it before they can capture it. I just like killing...Its showing mercy on monsters to capture them which i refuse to show.

since i beat the game solo i found myself being very serious when playing multiplayer for the first time with a couple friends. to my surprize we killed that gold rathian so quick i mean SOOO quick and i was litterly in shock haha. but since then when i hunt with friends i usualy dont care what happens seeing as its just for the fun of hunting with others. and becuaz i dont need to worry about them deying cuz we all be pros in this game lol. recently made Red kezu gona try a support memeber next time instead of being mr offensive and being asked " wow how the fuck did you evade rajangs hammer fist !" haha
May my Katana strike down the Beast Forged in Hell, to which it, itself mourns and prays for forgivness from God.

I've played with my brother and two cousins, I hardly ever use flash bombs or shock traps unless I am absolutely certain that I will need them. We always try to use the same armor set and help each other out,I can usually be found sitting on the sidelines using lifepowders to heal them while they duke it out with a monster, or I'm the one going for the parts you can cut off. But when we are not on a hunting quest and just goofin I would be the one using smoke bombs, small barrel bombs and basically anything to stop them from getting to their destination. I'm also the one who tends to survive the most >.>
