Monster Hunter Diaries Warm-Hearted Airu Village, Higher Tier Guide.
Ok so by now if you’ve been using the Starter Guide you’ve gotten your village going to a fairly stable state but some things still come up that are probably annoying.
So here goes in order to clear up any further confusion a slightly more advanced guide. This entire guide is SPOILER RIDDEN, DO NOT READ THIS GUIDE IF YOU WANT TO LEARN THINGS ON YOUR OWN!
Also as before this content is for this community do not post it or copy it elsewhere.
Village Elder is Restless:
Ok every so often the Village Elder is well, missing, you are awakened instead by that other white Airu who asks you search for him. These will start at around the 60 day mark.
The first quest in this chain should have him in the Plaza, riding a Poogi. Just talk to him and then race a poogi. This might trigger the Masked Rider sub chain in which a not too well disguised Elder will race you under the nom-de-guerre Masked Poogi Rider. This chain should last a total of 4 races one per day on random days. They get somewhat harder as they progress and beating them will eventually grant you access to the ultimate rival match up, should you win that, you will get your final "poogi" won't spoil that one =)
He may also be found arguing with the female chamberlain in the village residential area. This quest I found very taxing because it robs you of a day’s worth of mass friendship building. The chamberlain will ask you for a series of items to give to the Elder but none of these seem to appease his anguish. All will fail and yes he actually took those items. To add insult to injury he demands a party. Well that means you have to organize a party and you better make it the biggest you can make. So head on down to the Airu that runs the festival in the plaza and have a party. It clears the quest but it nets to friendship gains. Lame.
Barter Rewards
So far these seem totally random as friendly levels with none of these Airus seem to affect their actual barter returns so frequency seems to be key, send them out to barter everyday if you can.
Using the Architect and downloadable content.
OK so if you read the Mysterious Entourage portion of the starter guide you should be familiar with how this works. The female next to the bomb-maker will sell you interior and exterior materials that range from furniture to tent panels. Incidentally if you have the Hello Kitty content unlocked from the downloaded quest these will appear with her counter part the architect. Items you get from her go to the architect. His menu is a bit confusing at first. So here goes.
Interior Design
Exterior Design.
The interior design is more intricate. You can change the flooring, counters, banners, message boards, shelf contents, tent panel designs, plush dolls, crystalline lights and a slew of other things via this menu. Navigating it is a bit awkward at first but fiddle around with it until you get what you want.
The exterior is simpler, you can change the tent appearance, tent poling/rigging, and outer panel designs. It is actually no lie when they say this game is the most customized-ready game related to Monster Hunter.
The Song Princess 歌姫
Well as if changing the entire look and feel of the guild wasn’t enough at around the 80th to 85th day you will get a new guest to your village. The travelling song princess. Completing her quest allows you to, you guessed it, change the tunes you hear in the guild hall. The quest is a talk prompt and it is simple, do not choose the onomatopoeia answers like rarara, nyanyanya, wanwanwan, but choose the answer with the kanji only. This should clear the quest. Her list grows over time and her menu works as such. First from the top, song to play, followed by learned or ready to use songs. In order to use her at first select the second option and take all the songs she has presently available. Then you can start to use the first section of her menu to change the tunes in your guild hall.
Hunting Goals:
Well here it is in case you are somehow hitting a brick wall with the big monsters.
DosFango, Burrow during Rush charges and attack him when his past you and his back is to your team. Just carve him for your goal.
Queen Langosta: Knock down the fruits on the palm tree and then throw them at her or if you have a lot of bomb throwers have them hit her with their pebbles or bombs until you knock her down and she sees stars. Carve her to finish.
Rioreia: Sneak past her while she sleeps take the egg and make a dash for the exit.
RioReius: Get to the end of the stage asap, avoid him as best you can and then use the barrels there when he is flying over them to knock him down so you can carve him and finish.
YianKuku. Just pummel him until he is dazed and carve. Avoid his attacks by burrowing or walking to the opposite end of the screen then attacking.
Babakonga: Your bomb throwers work well here burrow to avoid attacks and just pummel till dazed so you can carve him.
DaimyoZazami: Avoid attacks by burrowing, and pummel when you can. Once dazed carve and finish.
FuruFuru: Walk from end to end to avoid his acid, burrow to avoid his electrosweep and attack him when he is dangling, Do this till he is dazed and then carve.
Teegarex: Get to the end of the stage and burrow often to get there. This is specially true when doing the Imoto version of this hunt. Once next to the large boulder at the end of the stage burrow often, he will charge into it and daze himself. Carve and your’re done.
Raguroriakurosu: Well just make it to the end of the stage and have him knock himself dazed on the rocks. Carve and you’re done.
If you have a party of 12 with friendship to level 10 on each one and if you plan accordingly, hunters for hard hitting monsters, bomb throwers for armored, flying or dangling creatures and you should be OK. For just about every big monster hunt take a barter Airu and a Bard. The Barter Airu will allow you to spot hidden enemies with the magnifying glass command and the bards cure status effects.
Poogi Racing:
Well, not all poogies are created equal. Each one has different traits. Some are balanced some are durable but slower others resist certain things others hop further and others are just fast dashers. Fiddle around with the control schemes for each poogie. Icon instructions are provided next to Enchou on the board there so it is easy to see what to do just doing it to see what works when and how. Beating races is just for fun, you get harvest items to give to any of the harvest chief, the miner, the farmer, the fishmonger, the bugcatcher etc. Or lures for your poogies to race better with. Or just outright items that you can also get harvesting.
Again check all over town for poogies they pop up all over so keep a sharp eye out so you can get very possible kind.
Poogi Racing Controls
Ok there is a banner that tells you how to race but it may not be clear how to do anything at first so here goes. The crosspad buttons up, down, left, right are the bulk of the controls. Press Right to move the Poogi forward faster (accelerate) Left to slow it down (break). Up and down to maneuver between lanes.
Advanced Controls
X is to Jump, some Pooies jump further than others.
0 or circle is to Use item, bombs etc etc.
up > up that is to say tapping up twice tosses you at least 2 lanes up to avoid obsticles and if a poogi is in your way it ATTACKS this is called tackle!
Down > Down, same as up and up but in the down direction.
Ramps: To use a ramp press jump as soon as you see it depressed by your weight it will launch you forward.
Mushrooms: Speed you up for a while. White shrooms speed you up and give you barrier such that you can run over obstacles with no ill effect to you.
Starting run: Press and hold circle when the countdown timer hits 1 second, if your poogie is balanced or has good charge it will dash out of the starting gate. Some poogies can do this all 3 sets some only once so fiddle with each poogi till you find the one that can do all you want for most situations or just adapt to different poogies depending on which course you are running the choices are endless.
The Poogi Race Menu
Press Triangle and you will be asked if you want to enter a race. Select the top word for YES or the bottom for NO.
Upon entering you will select a Poogi. After that you are taken to a location/race-type menu. The top selection is LOCATION. The middle is Length of Course SHORT, MEDIUM, LONG. The last selection is Laps. 1 Lap, 2 Laps, 3 Laps. There is a load screen between laps.
The Pure Crystal
Oh that darn Pure Crystal, it is the only way to get Trenya and one other Airu for the village. Invariably these will be the last Airus you will probably get. OK so how do you get this crystal? Well actually it is available in the mine but it has to be at maximum level and you have to have LUCK! If you can read the Kanji for the Oracle then you might discern a good time to try for it, sadly her guesses are....well guesses it seems. I am sure there is a method to the madness though. Lastly, there is ONE other way that is just as random but more fun. The Volcano Poogi Race. Set it to Max Length and go for broke at 3 rounds. Lastly to increase the odds further race with real people (at least one other) and cross your fingers hard and yeah come in first place too. Good luck!
Increasing Luck
Well so you need luck =) Here is a useful trick. Go to the cook and select the last item on the menu. This will bump your luck up quite a bit. To view your luck press the L trigger in the village. If it is at 5 stars and you have the full upgrade to the mine then about 8 to 10 mining hits next to the pink crystal mining point should net you a pure crystal. Good luck!
Final Comments from me
As I stated in my review, this game is fun but not everyone. This is a more family friendly, simpler, more approachable Monster Hunteresque game. I am not sure what the impulse was to make it other than to curb the “grotesque” moniker used to describe the titular games in the series. Because there is little cost to doing things and mostly benefit to doing anything and the low challenge will probably be a turn off for most players. That said the customizing options are engrossing and clearing quests seems to enliven the mood of the village and flesh out its inhabitants, though this is not done equally among all the inhabitants of the village so again that might be a turn off to some specially since you work so hard to get every single villager in to your village. It is fun but not what everyone probably expects from anything Monster Hunter related.
I hope these guides have been helpful to you in getting the most out of the game and I earnestly hope that in the future Capcom decides for simultaneous release dates on most titles across all regions. I realize that Monster Hunter is not as popular in the West but I hope that any subsequent push after MPH3rd sees some more development in that direction. I mean if other studios can pull it off on multiple platforms across multiple regions why can’t Capcom?
Enjoy the game!
