But I remember there being a IRC on the site, would be helpful for some talks instead of shoutbox.
Would be a nice thing to see again.

On the other hand, this brings us to another topic.. I think the chat deserves more attention? For the newer members and the old member who never knew there was chat, I mean. A direct link from the toolbar, perhaps?

We had it on the home page when the old forum went down, we got a lot of people coming in asking the same question "what happened to the site." We also got a very large amount of people trying to enter with Internet Explorer, which has compatibility issues. There would be large stretches of chatroom logs filled with people entering and leaving because they were quickly disconnected. This was rather bothersome. Once it was back, the number of new people coming in dropped. We still had a few coming in and having the IE problem. Some of the regular chat users complained.

If you can think of any alternatives, please go ahead.
