According to Hawking, it's plain bullshit to ask the question "What was God doing before he created the universe?", and by extension, "Who created God if he created everything?" because those questions rely on a fundamental property of the universe which is Time.

Since the universe is for all intents and purposes "non-existent" before the "moment of creation" or whatever origin of the universe you believe, Time does not exist. Therefore, asking about stuff before the "beginning of time" is invalid.

Holy crap that's an amazing post. I agree.

So if there's nothing before the "moment of creation", no time flow, no existance, then that either means that:
A) "god" can't of created the universe if he didn't exist before the creation of the universe
B) Our universe was created by a "god" of another 'verse. A Multiverse if you will.
C)for shits and giggles "god" of the future created the universe of the past.

Oh joy. Religion. *deep breath*

Ok, I view religion as opinion. I am a realist(?).

To me, religion is just an opinion. Everyone has their views, their ideals, and their motives. Some believe the universe was created by one god, some two or more, and others believe in no god. They're the same as opinions, know why? Because there is no belief that is the single Truth. We don't know if God existed, we don't know if the universe expanded rapidly, we don't know squat (The big Bang is still a theory, and has not been proven as fact). We have not truly disproved one religion or proved another. If someone were to force religion on someone, that is just like forcing an opinion. You are attempting to force out one's idea for another (usually your own). As I said before, we don't 100% know who is right or who is wrong.

A man who forces his opinion on others is no better then the non-believer, especially when he can't prove anything.

I only believe in facts and things that are proven.

So far, existence of God is not yet proven, therefore, I am not going to believe in God, but if there is in one day God is proven, then i believe in it. But then again, I doubt it would happen anyway. Science has proved much more then God.

To be honest I've never seen time as something that exists in the sense of beginning and end. It's merely a tool of measurement we humans have invented to measure sequences of events. In that sense I only believe that there is only a now/present and that there is no physical past we can travel back to nor a future which has already been written. An analogy to this would be like watching a movie which you can't fast forward or rewind, which never had a definable start to the story, and which never will have an end to the story.

Yea... I mentioned something similar to that, and someone (you?) rageflamed.

Someone asked if they were agnostic, idr who.
Agnostic is believing that noone will know until they know. Science has not proved a greater power (boom bye most religions) but neither has it gone beyond death and/or proved there is not a god (blam bye atheism). I've never believed anything to be set in stone, and so I am agnostic.
Maybe God or some religious idol does exist, and maybe not. How would any of us know until we die?

I also think the human mind is a powerful thing. Maybe, when you die, your mind goes into sleepmode (less your brain was destroyed) and your mind creates the afterlife you believed so hard in until it decays... but what then?

Too many if's around religion. I'll just live with sense (what religion calls morals and Christianity calls following Jesus' example) and accept whatever I find to be true, finally, and ask many questions along the way.

I think the Big Bang is bullshit. What, did some random speck of nothing just say, 'Dude, watch this!' to another speck of nothing and explode?

Maybe Deists are the closest to the truth... but then again for all we know any of the thousands of beliefs and established religions could turn out true.

Wow, this was longer than I intended.

Well, I am a Catholic by birth. But I still have my doubts on the existence of a deity that created the universe and still continues to create.

I don't know if I believe in God but sometimes I pray, because the way I was raised keeps me afraid.

Religion offers some answers to life's questions, but those answers are often to otherworldly, leading a person to ask more.

But then again, they will tell a person that the answers can be found on God/god. And a person will blindly follow because he has nowhere else to go.

Doubt can be good. Without doubt, there is only blind faith. :)

All answers offered by religion can't be really properly validated, leaving Doubt as a void on an individual.

Looking for the universal truth is almost hopeless.

@J2X: live in the now, don't waste your time trying to figure out something you know is hopeless, because you only have one life (unless there's an afterlife O.o)
