K. So go I got this today and in Japan it has been somewhat anticipated but not by the core MH fanbase (probably not a big surprise).
I am just going to describe the general impressions of the game based on only a few hours of play.
The menu in terms of options is very similar to the one in MHP2G. You can start a new game, access the net for downloadable content, do a data install (to speed load times during gameplay) a gallery option and the MHP2G Otomo(Felyne partner) import.
If you bought the game in Japan you should have also gotten a screen cleaning cloth depicting the game characters with in game graphics (this is different from the Dengeki PS magazine one).
The graphics are very nice but not mind blowing, the characters are cute and there is a lot to do in the town itself, in fact too much...but I won't spoil anything here unless people really want to know the village's structure before buying their own copy. There are 9 areas of the village you can go and do a load of stuff on from fishing to gathering to collecting bugs to yes...raising poogie clones as I call them heh heh.
It doesn't play like any other MH game out there in fact the style is a bit cumbersome at first glance but the learning curve is forgiving all things considered. The hunts are somewhat difficult at first cause it is nothing like we're used to.
Once I get some time in multiplayer and someway to get pictures up I will try to post em up. I will try to write a review within the week after about a day or two of playtime.
So far I am enjoying the village it feels like a monhan lite it doesnt add anything to the lore perse but it might have some foreshadowing goodies for MHP3 so that would be fun if it is included.
Also for those interested this is being tauted as MonFan extravaganza by capcom. There are a ton of goodies, advertisements for the Monhan Shop opening in Tokyo the Monhan Kitchen, capcom seaside restaurant (gonna check it out in person in few days) and a small article concerning Jinouga (what looks to be the signature monster for MHP3rd).
If you got this today what are your thoughts so far?

Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of picking it up today as I don't live in Japan! I ordered the game from HMV JP, but they have not started shipping them out yet....
EDIT: Just checked my order status and it says "Order in Progress". It's only 1:00pm in Japan right now, so I suppose they might ship it out later in the afternoon.
