Well, for that quest you have to kill at least two of the Congalalas before your Supply items show up. And the supply items include your Paw Pass Ticket.

So yes, you need to kill the Congalala.

I've always hated Congalalas, myself; couldn't ever really get the hang of hunting them.

Also, I still need a Bow armor set for HR9.

Tactical Blade is king of low GSes, but don't bother upgrading it beyond that.

Supremacy Blade and Devil Slicer for LSes. Both have good upgrades, but I'd personally skip the Supremacy Blade - Fatalis parts are a pain to get for its HR6 and HR9 upgrades, and it ends up outclassed by Copper Blango LS and (slightly) by Last Gaelic Flame. Wyvern Blade "Blood" is good too - it can kill the Low-rank Lao Shan.

SnS is harder to say :| SnS only runs tend to feature Eternal Strife. Also, Frost Edge+ is a good weapon. I had a lucky Rathalos Plate at Low-rank and got a Corona.

The only DS you need for Low rank is really Bladed Edge+ from Shogun Ceanataur. There are other DS that are decent, but Bladed Edge+ will kill most things fine.

Anvil Hammer is really the only hammer you need at low rank. As above, there are other good ones, but this is cheap and very effective.

Sakura Recorder is a good Hunting Horn for low rank. I would know, I used it. Not sure about the others.

Can't say for lances and gunlances; I never really used them. I think there was a recommendation for the Tigrex weps?

Chameleos LBG is one of the best Low rank LBGs there is (High Cham LBG is also one of the best High LBGs). Can't say for bows.


There's a Recommended Weapon FAQ out there somewhere with the best weapons at any rank. I know it's linked from Maze's DS Compendium - if I'm not wrong it's on GameFAQs... apologies, I haven't the time to look for it at the moment.

You only really need Bomber for blowing through the armor mode, and even then I've always found I need that felyne kitchen skill that auto-upgrades all LBB into LBB+ if you want to get through the entire armor mode in one run. I've never tried it without Focus though...

There's a nice armor set with Load Up, Focus, Guts + Bomber that I use against Fatties.

In regards for MH we are fairly quiet at the moment.
It's the lull between MH titles.

As for your questions that no-one answered...
-I think union ore is obtained at high-rank from the farm/random mining places...though it could be late low-rank. Anyway it isn't hard to find once it's available.
-All quests with multiple monsters have reduced life (or defence, or something) which makes them easier to kill. It isn't as straightforward as 2 monsters = half health, though. It depends on the quest, but as a rule of thumb I believe most 2 monster quests have around 66% health per monster. Multiple monster quests almost always take longer to finish than single ones.

I have much more fun reminiscing about this game than I do actually playing it, nowadays.

[Edit] Subzero, I thought custom quests worked across all versions... have you tried seeing if it just works? If not I have no idea, though.

I just started a new game and this free 99999z (which was i think from a import) really helped me breeze through VHR 1-3 with Full Battle Armor and Quickcaster HBG.
Some armor sets I should get for my HBG?
And is there an easy way to farm machalites,irons,earth ores/crystals? I need them for Paladin Lance.
