The Ending.

What to say, other than I feel robbed and cheated. No matter what I chose, my Shepard dies. Not in some heroic sacrifice, but through either destroying ALL tech in the galaxy, making everyone a synthetic and making the Reapers just...leave, OR just...controlling them. There's no actual personal victory.

Again, I stress. Shepard dies. The end. Game Over. All the Mass Relays detonate too, cutting everyone off from everyone else. I just feel that it was a terrible ending, and could have been done better.

heres wat i learnt (i heard you liked spoilers so i put spoilers in the spoiler)

Scanning planets/galaxy
important stuff are on planets. if you're lazy to scan everywhere for 100% probing, just scan all the planets (look for hidden "planets" in asteroid fields too). if the reapers are alerted of ur presence, just keep trying. exit- re-enter. on another note since i said important stuff are only on planets, you can actually plan your fuel usage (lazy to elaborate)

fullset armor usually gives better total bonuses

war assets faq.
the higher the number the better. effects the ending. to increase war assets, get ppl to unite/find stuff to aid u in war.

multiplayer
NOT NECESSARY for best ending. what multiplayer does is give a bonus multiplier to assets tat u find, reducing the need for you get as many assets as possible in single player. also allows you to be a jackass since you dont need so many war assets.

DLC
buy it. its awesome (yea imma fanboi). anyway this is the last of the series, so they cant make so many dlcs of it since the story is more or less finished.

power/talent/weapon tip
if you want to use your powers more often. use lighter/less weapons.

Multiplayer is tons of fun. I tested it earlier, expecting to be alright but I was wrong. The people I played with seemed cool and although the levels/ranks were often uneven, it was still loads of fun! It's not that hard to level up and because you get XP even if you fail the mission, ranking up doesn't feel like a grind-fest. Going to be investing more time in this, me thinks.

EDIT: If you're playing against the Cerberus enemies, try using a human engineer class, with overload, combat drone and incinerate. I was using this earlier for a few games and it is great against Cerberus. Also, try using nothing but the Predator pistol and your powers will recharge very quickly. Incinerate + Rapid firing pistol is a lethal combo against the unarmoured guys, but when the Centurions/Phantoms/Nemesis show up, just Overload + Pistol them to death. It really works!

Synthesis: all organic lifeform are "forced to evolve" into an organic/synthetic hybrid. shepard dies to have this happen.

Control: either shepard "dies" or becomes immortal as he controls the reapers forever.

Destroy: all the reapers are destroyed. shepard may live or die.

Other ending modifier: earth is destroyed or not.

now my personal thoughts

the ending i chose was synthesis. i found the ending beautiful. shepard sacrificed himself to end the cycle of synthetic vs organic wars. the reason why i find this is the right choice is because the other endings are meaningless in a long run. any other ending has a chance of synthetic vs organic war (if you buy lottery tickets every year but keep doing it forever, you sooner or later will strike lottery).

however i would say the other 2 endings are shit. it doesnt show any real significance of your choice. another reason i would say synthesis is the "best" ending is because you get to see joke and edi holding each other in a happy manner. it also has an awesome "tech effect" on all organics. the other endings show the same cinematic but without the tech effect.

for the feeling of robbed and cheated, i would agree only to these other non synthesis ending. the synthesis ending is perfect as it is, leaving us with a sense of wonder to the possibilities of what can happen. however the other 2 endings is not sufficiently long enough. it does not show any significant impact.

if you were to say his death is not a heroic one, i would be forced to agree. you also say it is not a personal victory since shepard dies. however i see it differently. mass effect from the very beginning is about saving the galaxy. not about personal victory.

having the mass effect relays destroyed is actually a good thing. the way i see it is, all these mass effect technology was made available thanks to the reapers. since you reject them, they have the right to take it back or to destroy it. as stated in the codex, mass effect relays were put in place by reapers to make civilizations dependent on them. it also mentioned that having such ease of access to that tech actually cuts off civilizations from discovering other different technologies.

it sure does suck being cut off from everyone but at the very least the galaxy survived the reapers for the very first time.

Yeah, but Galactic Civilization as it was know is over. I could live with a Heroic Sacrifice, if it meant that everyone else wasn't irrevocably fucked in the process.

I also chose Synthesis, seeing as the "Control" ending seemed like a raw deal (How can you control something when you're dead?) and the "Destroy" ending is deceptive. In the Destroy ending, EVERYTHING mechanical in the galaxy is wiped out, effectively erasing 2 species (Geth, Quarians) and killing EVERYONE in those starships (Several million at minimum). It sets everyone back to the stone age.

The Synthesis ending made sense to me, because hell, look at Shepard. Partly synthetic already, and he benefited from it. So no harm done. I still disagree with the ending being perfect.

The Normandy and its crew are stranded on some (admittedly beautiful) planet. They leave the ship...and then what? They can't exactly repopulate, too few people (not to mention the non-humans in the crew). Shepard's love interest is probably crushed and depressed (not that the ending shows that, another shortcoming of the ending is not showing ANY reaction to the fact that Shepard is dead.) Chances of anyone finding them are slim, as are chances of finding things Tali/Garrus can eat without completely killing themselves, so they likely die of starvation soon after.

What point is survival if you're stranded in your own system with an entire galaxy's worth of fleet and people? Supplies *will* run out, people *will* die, and fighting *will* continue, which will lead to a slow, definite extinction for most.

My point is this: There was no reason for them to blow up the fracking Mass Relays. None. It doesn't matter that it was Reaper tech, it was too useful to lose. EDI was based on Reaper tech, should she have been killed? The Geth are using Reaper algorithms (granting them individuality), should they have been wiped out? Just because it was Reaper tech doesn't mean it should go. Especially if it means that no-one will ever see their homes again (Quarians, Krogans, Turians, Asaris, ect.)

The ending just...didn't make any sense. The kid didn't explain *why* the Mass Relays had to be destroyed. In fact, I was desperately searching the entire end area for a fourth option I was missing. I thought there had to be SOME way to remove the Reapers and NOT completely fuck all civilization.

actually on bioware forums, theres a guy who theorized that all the "ending stuff" after getting hit by the reaper beam is actually shepard being indoctrinated. the way the guy presented it, really makes sense.

- kid in his nightmares finally appears in real life? playing me2 u would know tat researchers tat attempted research on a "dead" reaper would start hearing voices and will have recurring dreams prior to indoctrination
- the kid presents shepard with 3 choices.

choice 1
CONTROL. prior to this, shepard was against the illusive man coz he wanted to control the reapers. through out me3 everyone is against the illusive man because he thought he could control the reapers. it is even revealed that he was controlled. this is the same thing happening at the end. u are given the choice to control.

choice 2
SYNTHESIS. merge organic and synthetics. what do you get? REAPERS.

choice 3
DESTROY. the kid paints this as a negative thing to do. the geth will be wiped out. but actually the action u do in order to do so is you shoot/destroy an equipment near the connection between the crucible and the catalyst. you most likely are doing something to destroy the connection and thus make the crucible not function.

THUS. in all endings, it is merely an illusion. all outcomes involve either shepard dying or he disrupts the crucible/citadel connection. the reapers are victorious

well, people raging coz of the sucky ending is nothing new but i have heard rumours that the reason they did it that way is because prior to the release, me3's script was leaked.

biowares reaction is to quickly change the ending, but having so little time they did a crappy job.

what i heard is that they are going to come up with a "real" ending via a DLC called "the truth". should be free DLC if not mistaken

What. THE FUCK. Was that!?

I can deal with Shepard dying. But the Mass Relay's being destroyed? WHY?! It makes NO SENSE.

I took the "Control" path, because I fought too hard for the Geth and EDI and I wasn't about to just kill them off and "Synthesis" is essentially doing exactly what the Reapers were going to do anyway. Not my place to decide to fundamentally alter all life in the galaxy.

"Control", to me at least, came across as Shepard's physical body being destroyed, but their personality and mind being integrated into the Reaper consciousness, effectively replacing the Catalyst and ordering the Reapers to go back to Dark Space.

As for the whole "The entire ending was a hallucination" idea, I accept that up until the Mass Relays blow up. Here's how I see it:

"Destroy"

Shepard destroys a key component in the Crucible/Citadel, annihilating the Reapers, Mass Relays, and all current AIs and VIs. The resulting explosions wipe out nearly every major star system, including Earth, the Normandy and the Citadel, leaving the Galaxy a weak and pitiful shell of itself.

"Control"

Spoiler

Shepard's body is destroyed but his/her consciousness is uploaded into the Reaper Collective, effectively turning every Reaper into a conduit for Shepard's will. The Reapers return to Dark Space, and Shepard "lives on" so to speak, to see his/her hard work bear fruit. Harbinger, channeling Shepard, makes a quick trip back to say his/her final good byes to the crew of the Normandy.

"Sythesis"

Spoiler

Shepard sacrifices his/herself to turn every synthetic and organic into a cyborg on the cellular level, allowing peace between all life forms. The Reapers return to Dark Space, having no purpose and galactic society is rebuilt.

In Control and Synthesis, the Normandy and her crew survive.

As far as I know, as many times as you need. It should always show something, perhaps you didn't give it time to load or maybe there was a server glitch.

so there was a post on 4chan supposedly posted by a bioware insider.

TLDR: EA and the upper management are screwing up bioware's games. what goes in the game is decided by managers and artists (3d modelers etc) instead of the writers. they're all about DLC nowadays. the insider stated that ea only listens to money. hence dont buy anymore.

me3 does have 1 more DLC called terminator. the ending in me3 is correct and canon. shepard dies. a new ME series is introduced later called Mass Shift. in it, shepard is brought back to life but its not shepard. its actually the catalyst (ghost kid). catalyst still the same as last time not wanting synthetics and organics to fight so he wants to destroy the synthetics

I can't explain what causes this but I DO know that it isn't just you. Loads of people have that same issue and it happened to me yesterday. It kept telling me I needed to check my Xbox Live connection (which was perfectly fine) so all evidence points to it being Bioware/EA's problem. If it happens, just try logging on again later, that worked for me.
