The graphics aren't amazing or anything, but that fits with the cube-based visual style. It's about on par with the N64. People have made plenty of skins that aren't too hard to apply, and with a little work you can make your own.
It's currently in alpha, possibly nearing beta. Updates and bugfixes happen fairly often. It's done in Java though, and takes a surprising amount of RAM. My machine runs it alright on medium settings, but it's usually eating up around 500mb of RAM. At least it doesn't take up much hard drive space. Multiplayer was recently added, but is still fairly buggy. I haven't tried it yet, not sure if my connection can handle it.
I've only been playing for about a week. I've dug some large mines, done a fair bit of exploring, and made a basic base. I'm quite proud that I've created a waterfall going down the side of the hill my base is in, and dug out a window behind it. I've now considering adding two streams of lava flowing down either side of the entrance. It's a little risky, but would look awesome. I've yet to start working on tracks and carts or farming, really should start on that.
