Be the 99%. Get Battle Armor and Iron Katana "Grace", and use nothing but that one weapon and it's upgrades for 80% of the game. ^^

My first armor set was female Hunter armor (I think?) It was the one on the upper right here:
I literally chose it for looks. I liked the hairdo and the chainmail 'half-skirt'. It made the most awesome chainmail clinking sound when you walk in it. It got me to the Butterfly armor (for evade), which I wore to solo farm Kirin for its armor. My first weapon was the cheap hammer that eventually upgrades into the Anvil Hammer, but I mostly used the Basarios Hunting Horn through these early stages of the game (got the HH from fighting Basarios in a download quest available to all Hunter ranks, used the hammer to slay Basarios)...
So I'd recommend that armor with the Basarios Rock HH, because it made me feel pretty badass at early stages of the game, and it's different enough from what I hear most people did. :3

Ah! Thanks, I couldn't remember. I liked it anyway, thought it was the best looking armor for the female character at that point. ^.^

Kirin is really tough where your at. Just try to tough it out the entire battle, your weapon is gonna bounce like crazy....
