The Story of Weisheng the Favored Disciple – By LoneSyndal (gPotato: gensyndal; Name: Steven Than)
The story of the favored disciple who was executed by the master of the Way of Sun spread like wildfire. What everyone wanted to know was why. The rumor that spread was that the favored disciple was practicing forbidden arts behind the master’s back, hungry for more power. Others talked about how he was a spy from the black sects. Nonetheless, the story of the young man, Jian Weisheng, continued to fill the thoughts of the populace in the martial arts world, Wulin.
The truth of the story however, was much different. It was said that the Favored Disciple of the Way of Sun was an orphan of potential, heralding abilities like no other before him. Even the most difficult of techniques were mastered in a short amount of time. He learned from watching others, visiting schools, and even from fighting friends and enemies. Master Gen Delun treated and loved Weisheng as his son. However, after adopting and watching his disciple grow, his many other disciples grew weary and agitated.
Jealously and malice continued to cloud the other disciples, leading them to constantly challenge Weisheng and his right to belong at the Temple of Sun. When all else had failed, the very disciples of the Way of Sun turned to a new alternative, the school of Blood Moon.
The Blood Moon School was the sworn enemy of Way of Sun, believing in different ideals to obtain their place in Wulin. The disciples of Sun bribed The Blood Moon to assassinate Jian Weisheng and the two sides agreed that removing this person while he’s still developing would bring out the best interests to both schools.
However, their plan was put to halt when Master Delun caught wind of their plans on the same night. This didn’t prevent further conflict as the disciples and Bloon Moon said that they would continue until Weisheng was gone for good.
Time had gone by and again with the Master continuing his favor of his adopted son, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t bring it to himself to do what he said to the others. Delun began sending away his favored disciple to distant regions in order to separate him from the violent fate that awaited him back at the temple.
When Weisheng would return, he would be told to go to another distant region. With each journey, Weisheng learned more of the world, mastered more martial arts, and made many new allies. His strength then was on par with the Masters of Martial Arts and became a threat to all of Wulin with his power and bonds.
The story tended to break away from there. Many were unsure of how such a powerful person fell, but it was said that on his last return, Weisheng was greeted by a surprised attack from his best friends from Way of Sun and his master, Gen Delun. When he was told of his crimes, he couldn’t believe that his beloved master would take his life by executing the very person he brought into Wulin with all his love and support.
A body wasn’t found however. The attack allowed Master Delun and the Way of Sun keep their reputation while ending a large-scale crisis between other schools. A decade and a half later, an unknown martial artist entered the realm of Wulin to test his strength, claiming his name as Yuan Gen Weisheng.
