Former player returning Have a couple questions

I understand there is no "best" weapon type. They all have their features to make them better or worse than another. With that being said, do we have a thorough and quality guide to each type of weapon? I used SnS for my first part of offline, but now I'm using GS. I would like to experiment, but I don't want to waste my time, either. Do people typically have multiple weapons (if they're quality) for multiple types of monsters? For instance, if one monster is more suited for a dual blade weapon user, do you use that dual blade on him, but then if a guy is "weaker" to GS, would you swap? Or do most of you guys really stick with one type of weapon per person?
With that same thing in mind, do most people have strong weapons (maybe of the same class) that have different elemental strengths? I can understand how having different ones will work for different monsters. I know this is a basic question (I have tried limiting my use of guides and walk throughs), but what is the fastest way to collect the materials for nets, and the attack boosting and defense boosting seeds? I have done a lot of the things that you'd want to do to put yourself in a good position, such as book of combos 1-4, carrying herbs/blue mushrooms, honey, potions and mega potions, I have completed all offline quests up to lagia (he's next on my list). Do you recommend doing anything additional that I'd want to maintain as a hunter?
At what point would you recommend going online? As I've stated, I want to get as much out of offline as I can (I don't want to be carried by people due to my lack of gear/ignorance of the game.. and I dont want to carry others by finding cities full of people who cant kill a moth, either).. but at the same time, I don't want to farm myself into death or restrict myself by any means. What's a good happy-medium in your guys eyes? my concern is that (I remember playing MH on PSP), once you go online, you might not go back... I kind of would like to say I beat offline first. After all, there's really no rush.
I'm sure I'll have more questions, but if you guys could answer these additional ones, that would be kick ass. Thanks in advance.

Gs: deviljho P
Ls: demise
Hammer: jho P
Lance: ala (i forget the name)
Sns: star
Swaxe: harvest, well...ceudeus, but only in blue sharpness.
that being said, they all are HR51^ weapons. This game is unlike the rest. Elemental weapons dont necessarily matter, unless your fighting something REALLY weak to ice. Them nard (sns) amd bari (lance) are the best. Essentially, this game gave us what we wanted. A singular, "best" weapon for each class.
That being said, LS has the highest dps in game, making it th most powerful weapon in game. Ow, peopl will call you a noob and etc, if you use it, but.personally, I dont mind, I find it very fun.
Also, on your maining GS. Ive mained GS since the first mh game on ps2. And whrn it comes to tri, GS is intensely amazing. Advice from me:
USE THE SLAP! I go for a KO on anything im fighting. Also, use the slap to set up and perfectly time a overcharged swing. Just as you would normally lvl3 when it turns to face you.
That all said, I find lancing and gunning the most fun in this game. So different from before.
As to when you should go online?
Youl need these armors:
Agnak
Los
Lagi
Ceudeus
And a decent arsenal of weapons. And youll be able to take on low rank by yourself when nobody is there to help. Id recommend lagi ls.
Honey, and power seeds. Farm them. And buy as many uhh....omg. Someone help me out on the thing you trade for honey online. Mega pots are a bitch to get later on in the game if you run iut.

Prepared myself completely and went and faught Lagia last night. It was over really fast. It was a LOT easier than I thought it would be. Only had a few minutes playtime last night, so I didn't have an opportunity to go after Rathian. That'll be next.

Ha, been good glad to see someone recognized me. Been mostly away from monster hunter since my psp broke, then like i said this site changed and i just didnt frequent as most of my hunting was on psp since i didnt have wireless setup yet. Got hooked on call of duty but im better now. Started playing tri again so i decided to pop up in here and see how things were going.
Back to the main issue, i would also reccommend playing through offline first, at least until you can farm ceadeus. You will get faster access to rathalos and lagi this way and they will be pretty easy to boot. plus ceadeus armor is pretty decent. having better armor/weapons when you start online will be a big bonus especially when you get into the last low rank quests, or even in a group full of people that dont necessarily have the best skills.

Yeah, i think it was Hydro Hide that you trade for them? I usually just trade them offline from the Argosy captain, i only use him for that, Wyvern Fangs (Claws are to common) and Fish Finder for my fishing boats.

Killed Rathian and Lagiacrus in my first attempts last night. Going to try to get some playtime in tonight. I think I'm going to finish offline before moving online.
