Former player returning Have a couple questions

I used to play MH on the PSP, around 2005-2006 or so. I loved every single second of it, except having to play on the internet in the method that you had to use back then. Eventually I moved on. In total I have played Ultima Online for about 5 years, WoW for 2, Runescape for 3, CS1.6 for 3 years, and MH for about 1 year. That's my approximate gaming experience (that's relevant).
I'm going to be purchasing a Wii really soon, and the main inspiration is for MH.
I just have a few questions I wanted to ask. (You guys seem like the right place to ask)
The game's been out for about a year and a half now. Is there still a large amount of players playing online? Obviously with this type of game, the online mode is the whole point. Do you know of any intention to bring this game, or another version to either xbox or ps3 in the near future? I realize the PSP may be an option, but I was wondering about those two consoles specifically.
I don't know much about the Wii - How is the Wii Speak? Is it common? Is it popular?
The keyboard and controller - I hear you should have the controller for maximum skill/ability. I'm all about skill and knowledge rather than "omg my gear and HR is better". I want to maximize my time when I play. Is it highly recommended getting the controller?
Is there anything you would tell a returning or new player about the game, if they were a friend of yours? I'm curious to anything that's changed, or if some things have stayed the same, but in your guys opinion, has been changed.
Thank you in advance for your time. I look forward to hearing some feedback.

Wii speak is harly ever used, its trash, use a usb keyboard, thats best.
Get the controller, but thats an opinion, I dont know how to play with wiimote. controller does very nice.
What I would say to a new player probably, it that you can play underwater now,get yourself trained in that, cause IMO alot of people are having trouble with that. Lance and LS are upper rank weapons and SNS is underrated by the creators, which is a shame... Go to HR50fast online and get the Alatreon stuff, cause thats the best weapons. (they can have purple sharpness - with Sharpnes+1 skill, which is the best)
good luck and have fun.
Monster Hunter 3 Tips and Tricks

From my own experience, this game has the most activity around the weekends. A lot of players go to the Recruiting server so if you want to find a game quickly, then that's a safe bet.

It was recently revealed that MH3G is going to be released on the Nintendo 3DS, but we do not know if it is going to be released in the UK/US. MH3G is essentially a bigger and better version of Monster Hunter Tri with more monsters, equipment and the like.

No, it's not very popular on this game. I've seen/heard people using it a couple of times but that's about it. To be honest, it's much easier to communicate with a USB keyboard plugged into the Wii so that you can type to the people you're playing with.

I would definitely recommend getting the controller. I got one on the same day the game was released and haven't put it away. Since you've played Monster Hunter on the PSP, it'll be much easier for you to use a controller as opposed to using the remote.

- I wouldn't say too much except that with this game, the online mode is the heart and soul. Sure, the offline solo gameplay is fun but it'll only last you so long and you can get much more stuff online anyway.
- If you feel uncomfortable with jumping into online mode straight away, then head offline and get used to the Monster Hunter feel again.
- There are people online who quit/abandon/annoy you for no apparent reason but if you play with people you actually know (like from Minegarde) then you'll have a much better playing experience.

If you're on the PAL (EU) server, I can play with you but if you're on the US server there will be people you can play with from around here

The mass of players..not very many. At least 2000 people. And then only 200 are worth playing with. The amount of just...worthlessness of people in tri is depressing.
Overall, amazing game.
I bought a wii just for this. And I dont regret it. As for psp, I recommend it, of the 3 games on it, I have had almost endless fun on it.
Advice for a returning player?...Expect the unexpected. Mh has come a VERY long way from the original ps2 one where it took weeks to'beat that kut-ku urgent.

I do have one more question for you guys.
In my experience, when games have been out for this long of a time (18+ months), typically the population dwindles to two specific types of people. You'll typically find a ton of really good, really experienced, quality players (who may or may not be jerks) who stay with the game. They've done it all, and expect the best. On the contrary, you find a lot of people who have no experience and can't slash their way out of a paper bag. Obviously this is just a stereo type and it's not guaranteed, but it's something I've noticed in the past with these types of video games.
My one concern about leveling up my gear, playing online, trying to create friendships and have some fun battles, is that it will be difficult to find quality players who are still learning, and enjoy the game (but are still experienced to a degree, to be able accomplish quality kills). Do you guys think it'll be extremely difficult to find those middle-ground players? If so, what's your best opinions on how to do so?
Thanks again in advance,
-James

All the noobs play on Greed 1 on the EU servers, so much and so badly that i avoid Greed like a plague and play with my friends on Valor.
It's very hard to find decent/good players online on the EU servers sadly...because 90% are French, Italian, German and Spanish noobs (No offense ment to the people over here who are from these countries, not all are bad but the majority is) who don't even say hi, have no skills (HR250 with Autoguard and Full Helois+ with the negative skills still in it anyone?) and are just annoying as hell...
The few players that are decent/good are very hard to find but when you find them you can get soem quality games with them.

As Kaos said, playing with people from this site is probably you're best bet. We're friendly and people still go online frequently. There are people out there who are good and friendly too but finding them is hard and as Ce Nedra pointed out, a lot of people online aren't interested in joining up. They may only want to do one specific quest then leave, or just get one item then leave.
My best advice to you is to find people on the US server that are from this site and join them but don't rely on them to do everything for you. You'll have a much better experience that way

For starting out, stay in the first set of servers, generally there are more people at your level and a larger population to choose from. Will be easier to pick a group to get going. This is not saying stay away from greed though as that is where the majority of good players are but there indeed a bunch of elitists, and very specific game goals.

I hate your router
I found alot of complete trash players on greed1. There was only maybe 4 people who I met in game that were not from minegarde that I would call good. The first 2 never logged on after we became friends

I had an opportunity to put some game time in over the past 3-4 days.
I have decided to pursue offline as much as possible before I go to online. I want to milk it for as much experience and gear as I can get before moving online. I'm probably ready to go online right now, but I do not want to quite yet.
My progress has taken me to clearing all quests for the first four levels. My only task left before unlocking more is Lagiacrus. My currently armor is a mix of Quru, Barroth and Ludroth. I have only fainted twice during my gameplay so far. Both times were at the end of fighting Barroth (during the second time I faught him) and during the Royal Ludroth (first time fighting him), when they were nearing the end of their life and going berserk. I got impatient both times and was trying to finish it off. Not too shabby considering the challenges overcome so far.
I should be able to take out Lagia tonight. I'm not quite sure how many more days I will be offline before moving to online, but I figured I would give a status update.
Thanks again.

I don't think I'm going to do that, to be honest. I want to complete, if not master most of the content, but I don't plan on farming any of it just to prepare for online. I'm just trying to prevent being one of those players we all hate. The guy who tries to jump in and doesn't know as much as she shouldn't.
What's the final guy's name, btw? And, any other advice from anyone?

Low rank full set gives blunt sword, demonic protection, high grade earplugs, sharpness +1.
High rank gives the same, but each individual armour pieces give varying amounts, which is why any helmet and helios+/helios+/helios/helios (or serene if your a girl)givse you 16 points into high grade earplugs and 16 points into sharpness +1. Any charm + helm and weapon gem combo can get you a lot of other nice skills. My favorite being 1 slot weapon, alloy helm/helios+/helios+/helios/helios and a +7 evade +3 sharpening speed 1 slot charm. Gives speed sharpen, evasion +1, high grade earplugs, and sharpness +1. Great for any situation.

That is the best thing you can do. All the better players are the ones who have done this. You learn alot of the basic fundamentals.

This. But id also recommend making lagiacrus armor and rathalos armor. These are useful for different situations. Elements matter now when it comes to defense. And they all work better for better times. As well as the lagiacrus weapon of any of the weapons you like. they are amazing. And the rathalos hammer and ls.
And if you like lance, agnaktor armor is perfect. Biut thats the kind of thing youll want rathalks armor to farm. Because fire damage is all over the place. Also, the online low rank agnagnak quest, rarely ever shows up. I think ive done it 5 times or so in my whole tri experience. Its a random quest.

To be honest, the first thing I need to is kill lagia before I start worrying about farming him.
I am having difficulty figuring out if I want to stay with GS, or move to something different. I suppose that I have plenty of time to figure out my weapon of choice (not that you need to stay with one and never change).
Thank you for the comments. I will learn as much as possible from offline as I can.
