Alternate www SR and HC Guide in this post: http://forums.minega...post__p__122952
===============================================================
I am refining and extending vengro's old SR/HC guide: http://forums.minega...rd-core-quests/
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Once you reach HR 499 or above, you will be able to gain the Book of Secrets from the bottom right corner of your screen. There are Red, Blue, and Yellow books that will depend on the poster and the monster type (brute, crustaceans, piscines, bird wyverns, flying wyverns, or elder dragons) you are hunting. (e.g. Rathalos that you posted gave you Red books, therefore all Flying Wyverns that you post will yield Red books).
=====================================================
Style Rank (SR)
=====================================================
Check vengro's guide for a detailed explanation for SR or check the official site: http://members.mh-fr...iden/index.html
To find how to do each new move, figure it out yourself for now...I will make a weapon move set guide in the "near" future.

-2nd Choice: Unlock an SR 100 move by slaying xxx amount of HC monsters (You can log out to change what is required if you do not like to fulfill that request)

HardCore
=====================================================
What is HardCore?
When posting Hunter and Gou quests, there is a Hardcore (HC) mode option on the bottom option (ハードコア instead of ノーマル). When joining an HC quest, there will be a red flame Posted Image indicated in the quest board (and the quest list if you are posting, indicating if it is HC-able or not) to tell that it is an HC quest. HC quests basically replaces the original monster into Hardcore mode, having unique and improved attacks compared to its Normal mode. Only hunters with the required SR level can be able to do HardCore quests. Each hunter must pay a 1 HC ticket fee to join each HC quest.

Why do HardCore?
The main reason people do HC monsters is to earn SR tickets and HC carves which I will cover later. Otherwise it is just more fun and it gives the hunter a new experience fighting HC monsters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
HardCore Monster Carves
-----------------------------------------------------------------
When you kill HC monsters, there is a 2% chance that you will carve an HC carve from them. These carves are vital with making HC weapons, maxing HC Gou weapons, and upgrading SR/HC armors.

Just match any carve here to know where to get your missing HC carve~ =]

If you want some math (lol), here is the probability of carving at least 1 HC carve depending on the amount of carves per monster:
2 Carves: 1 - .98^2 = 3.96%
3 Carves: 1 - .98^3 = 5.88%
4 Carves: 1 - .98^4 = 7.76%
5 Carves: 1 - .98^5 = 9.61%
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SR Weapon Tickets
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What are SR Weapon Tickets?
As you do HC quests with your SR weapons, you will receive SR tickets of that particular weapon from the reward screen. There are 4 types of SR tickets which you can get depending on your SR weapon and the level of the HC monster:
xxx魂・序 = Low Rank SR Tickets
xxx魂・中 = High Rank SR Tickets
xxx魂・極 = Henshu SR Tickets
xxx魂・天 = HR 100 Gou SR Tickets

What are they for?
HC weapons and SR armors needs several of these SR tickets.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
HC Weapons:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What are HC weapons?
HC weapons are weapons that you can make by using SR Weapon tickets and HC monster carves. You need to have the HC weapon's SR and accumulate tickets using it to create them.

How do I make HC weapons?
To make and max melee and Bow HC Weapons, you will need about 30 LR tix / 30 HR tix / 15 HR tix with several HC carves. HC Bowguns will normally just need a total of 15 to 30 SR weapon tix with a couple of HC carves.

Why get HC weapons?
A good reason to get HC weapons is that they are pretty great for being low rarity weapons, not needing to rank up to SR 600 to do a great deal of damage. Also, HC weapons have HC Weapon Bonus Skills if you use them on HC quests.

HC Weapon Bonus Skills:
Blademaster: Sharpness Boost (e.g. A weapon with Blue and White sharpness will now have a sharpness of White and Purple)
Posted Image
Gunner: +40% Critical bonus

There are also Rare 12 Gou HC weapon upgrades. These are basically an additional upgrade with the normally maxed Gou weapon, besides bowguns, which will need HC carves and Gou SR tickets. Check out my Gou Weapon/Equipment guide here on how to get them: http://forums.minega...ons-and-armors/
(Note: Maxed Gou HC weapons sadly does NOT get HC weapon bonus skills)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SR Armors:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
These are basically "end-game" armors for each weapon type since they take foreverrrrr to farm~ w

SR Tickets required to (Create Base + Upgrade to F + Upgrade to FX + Max FX):
HR 1~30 SR tix: 20 + 65 + 0 + 0 = 85
HR 31~99 SR tix: 15 + 45 + 135 + 0 = 195
HR 100 SR tix: 10 + 5 + 95 + 165 = 275
HR 100 SR Gou tix: 5 + 0 + 5 + 75 = 85

Thus, if you set goals: (HR 1~30 tix / HR 31~99 tix / HR 100 tix / HR 100 Gou tix)
To make the base for one piece: 20 / 15 / 10 / 5 => 50
To get one piece to F series: 85 / 60 / 20 / 5 => 170
To get one piece to FX series: 85 / 195 / 110 / 10 => 400
To get one piece to max FX series: 85 / 195 / 275 / 85 => 640

Multiply that by 5 for all 5 maxed FX armor pieces:
HR 1~30 SR tix: 425!
HR 31~99 SR tix: 975!
HR 100 SR mob tix: 1375!
HR 100 SR gou tix: 425!
Total SR tickets to be farmed for maxed FX series: 3,200!

In addition to the +30 Weapon Tech, all armors will grant Ultra HGE(+25 Earplugs) innately, without occupying a skill slot.
Listed below are the total skills points that you will get for the whole FX set (just simply divide the total skill points by 5 to find each armor piece's stat) and what each Weapon Tech level does.

For now, we only have these 11 and this nun looking outfit (the exact same design with all 11 weapon types).

This one does not get much skills, having only one slot each piece and can only give the +10 Weapon Tech (+15 pts at the most) skill, but it is pretty easy to max and has a good amount of defense. Here are the skills per weapon type for these full SR armors:

There are also RX and LX armor upgrades (Base > U > R > RX and Base > S > L > LX) in this game. If you do certain Frontier Quests, you can obtain mats for them and you will also need to use a couple of HC carves per armor piece.
Here is the official source of info for them: http://members.mh-fr...lxrx/index.html

There is a rumor of having new HC/SR armors from the latest video report they just did...it is not yet officially announced what it will be. Alternate white SR armors? www

The Wiki I was using said that only the Bow skill gave free UHGE. Somewhere else say that all of them get it now or something?

The Style Ranking and HC www Guide
===============================================================
This guide will help you guys understand style ranking in DMC4 and what is HC! ^^
-----------------------------------------------
Style Ranking System
Posted Image
This is the meat and potatoes of what your score is based on. If you have a bad style rank, no matter how high your multipliers are, you're going to have a difficult time achieving a high mission ranking since there isn't much for the score to multiply. STYLE POINTS is the battle breakdown of the moves you use accumulated with the damage done per move at which rank you are at when the move was executed, as well as what style rank you were at when you landed the final blow.
The ranking system goes in a letter grading system as follows D -> C -> B -> A -> S -> SS -> SSS

This video will show you guys some tactics to get an SSS rank in the first mission.

As you see it's mostly just mindless button mashing =p .
-----------------------------------------------
Basic Ranking Breakdown
Clear Time: XX:XX:XX
Style Points: XXXXXX
Orbs Found: XXXXXX
Bonuses:
XXXXXXXXXXX Orbs x0000

These amounts are then associated with your style bonus and appropriate multipliers to end up giving you a 'Devil Hunter Score'. This score is essentially what determines what your mission rank is.
CLEAR TIME is exactly as it says, from the time you press "Start mission" to the point where you land the killing blow on the boss. This EXCLUDES cut scenes and paused activity. So don't worry about your rank if you have to press start.
STYLE POINTS is the battle breakdown of the moves you use accumulated with the damage done per move at which rank you are at when the move was executed, as well as what style rank you were at when you landed the final blow.
ORBS FOUND is the TOTAL AMOUNT of orbs found on a level. the orb total includes what was obtained from mobs. This then is matched up to the expected level total of orbs, giving you a percentage score.

This here will show you how to build up style points quickly so for high ranks , by connecting combos.

What is Hardcore (HC)?
Fast, loud and furious – these are the elements of hardcore. From its inception in the late ‘70s, hardcore began to pick up the attitudes and messages employed by the first punk bands, setting them to driving guitar and drum lines that were more frenzied than those played by earlier bands that fell under the punk description. Faster and heavier than other contemporary punk bands, hardcore songs were often very short and very frenzied.
-----------------------------------------------
The Early Days of Hardcore:
At the beginning, hardcore punk was primarily a phenomenon in the states. Hardcore punk's rise to popularity in the late '70s and early '80s happened in multiple cities throughout the U.S. almost simultaneously. Musicians that had been raised on heavy metal but were being influenced by punk were taking these two influences, combining them, and speeding them up into something exciting and unheard of. At the same time, on opposite coasts, three bands help usher in the era of hardcore. LA's Black Flag and Washington DC's Minor Threat and Bad Brains were the primary pioneers of the hardcore sound, which also ushered in the era of slamdancing at punk rock shows. While it had been around for a while at punk rock shows, the intensity of hardcore music really brought it into prominence.
-----------------------------------------------
Hardcore Breaks Out:
With the birth of these early scenes came a DIY ethic that allowed hardcore scenes to pop up all over. The Midwest was especially dense; In Detroit, Negative iApproach ruled the roost, in Lansing, Michigan, the Meatmen started a scene, and Minneapolis-St. Paul spawned the amazingly complex Husker Du, who mixed jazz, psychedelia, acoustic folk and pop in with their hardcore riffs. It was true everywhere, though. Nevada had 7Seconds. New Jesey had the Misfits. Gang Green was raging in Boston. And New York was putting hardcore shows on by the Beastie Boys, a hardcore band that would later be better known as a rap outfit. Once the sound began, it was impossible to put a lid on it. Essentially, any city or town large enough to have a scene seemed to have a hardcore scene, with its own chunk of local hardcore bands and local hardcore followers. This continues to be the case, and while it was (and continues to be) primarily popular in the U.S., hardcore scenes are evident all over the world.

Hardcore Shows:

While hardcore records are obviously an essential part of hardcore music, and without them we’d have no recorded history of the music, hardcore music and its encompassing scene was and is really about the hardcore show, where all of the DIY ethic comes together. Even now, hardcore house and club shows happen everywhere, with bands getting together to play out of basements and garages, selling self-recorded music and handmade t-shirts, and advertised by self-produced fliers.

HC on Politics:

Many bands took left wing political stances and were vocally against Republican U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who served in office from 1981 to 1989. Reagan's policies, including Reaganomics and social conservatism, were common subjects for these bands. Shortly after Reagan's death in 2004, the Maximumrocknroll Radio Show composed an episode made up of anti-Reagan songs from the 1980s including material by Dead Kennedys, Government Issue, DRI, Youth Brigade, Crucifucks, Wasted Youth, Dayglo Abortions, Reagan Youth, TSOL, The Fartz and others. Similarly during the 2001–2009 presidency of George W. Bush, a number of bands actively espoused anti-Bush stances. During the 2004 United States presidential election, artists and bands including Brian Baker, Jello Biafra, Mike Watt, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Circle Jerks, Ensign, Sick of It All, The Unseen, Western Addiction, and Youth Brigade involved themselves with the anti-Bush political activist group Punkvoter. A minority of hardcore artists were more right wing, such as Antiseen, whose guitarist Joe Young ran for office in North Carolina as a Libertarian. Former Misfits singer Michale Graves also infamously appeared on an episode of The Daily Show, voicing his support for George W. Bush.

HC Dancing:

"Moshing"
The early 1980s hardcore punk scene developed slam dancing and stage diving. A performance by Fear on the 1981 Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live was cut short when slam dancers, including John Belushi and members of a few hardcore bands, invaded the stage, damaged studio equipment and used profanity. They included John Joseph of Cro-Mags, as well as Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat. In the second half of the 1980s, the thrash metal scene adopted this form of dancing, with bands such as Anthrax and Stormtroopers of Death (an Anthrax-affiliated project) popularizing the terms mosh and moshing with the metal scene.

HC Pornography:

Hardcore pornography is a form of pornography that features explicit sexual acts. The term was coined in the second half of the 20th century to distinguish it from softcore pornography. It usually takes the form of photographs, often displayed in magazines or on the Internet, or films. It can also appear as a cartoon. Since the 1990s it has been distributed widely over the Internet. Hardcore pornography commonly includes explicit depictions of sex acts, including many unmentionables here.

Huh. Oh well.

The mhf-wiki.com site says it only for Bow, however that site seems to be behind recently on a lot of random stuff, so I'm not surprised if it's wrong.

Regardless, great job on the guide!
