After some extensive research into starting items, I believe the Thief class is the best starting one as you get the "Master Key" which allows you to open most doors and treasure chests in the game. However, you would need to practice abusing parry and backstabs to use it fairly well compared to just spamming R1.

Not sure what to do for builds yet. I'm looking forward to a Faith Type (Melee Based HP Regen Character; just like my Demon's Souls counterpart). I'm still stuck with starting equipment and have defeated the Taurus boss with ease and have probably traveled through most of Undead Parish by now. My current issues is the two-handed Black Knight on top of tower and the Mini-Tower Guard inside the Church. My current save point is to the right of the Church where the blacksmith is and below would be some sort of mini-boss that spams lightning spells. Gonna have to work on getting better gear now... when I get the free time to play again anyway.

the key is only starter item that you cant find through out the game from what ive read...

There's a few that can only be received as gifts, but none as valuable as that key.

Does DkS have more than one save slot? I heard it only has one .

Pretty sure it has multiple, just like Demon's Souls.

I am loving this. Running around with a spear on my guy, spear and zweihander on the group character. Tried invading once, didn't work. I hate that the invasion item is consumable now.

IGN stated that the emphasis is on helping people rather than hurting them. Like how the Book of Bad was created.

Are spears a new weapon class? Or are they along with polearms?

But invading is so fun!

Spears are a class, but there is also a weapon called "spear". Then there's winged spear, halberd, and partisan. That's what I've gotten.

I just meant group as in the group of friends I play the game with. The three of us get together and pass the controller around during our usual nerd night. What's this hunting party thing?

Yes, it has ten slots, if I counted correctly. Also, saves are system locked, but you probably already knew that.

I would've posted in this sooner, but I've near disappeared off the face of the earth thanks to this game.

Still learning the ropes, having major trouble with the dragon encounter on the tar/oil-covered bridge.

Stick to the right side, run in, then dart to the little side bit to the left and stay in the corner. Wait for him to land, then run past.

Or go to the right side bit, go down the stairs, open up the shortcut back to the bonfire, and take the alternate route.


I got super lucky and got a black knight sword off my first black knight. One hit the Taurus Demon with it.

Time after time the dragon(well, drake) would shoot the fire too quickly for me to get any progress before dying, and he'd never land. The time I got through, he just sat on his perch growling at me.

I actually did shoot at his tail after I got through, before seeing your comment, Semaj. Not strong enough to wield that Drake Sword with one hand, though.

Picked up the game today. I had heard the game was hard but dear god, I was not prepared for this at all.

For the two handed black knight on top of the mini tower, all you need to do is to lure him to the fire down stairs and trick him to constantly burn himself to death.

Don't forget to take the drake sword from the dragon tail XD

My bro is level 41 before the actual game release date and have wield black knight 2 handed sword, nice game but I have no time to actually play it

Fought the Bell Gargoyles. Maneater was annoying, these two proved it by constantly doing flamethrowers. Now doing Darkroot Basin.
