New vehicle types. Vehicles can now carry 4 people by default. Vehicle handling has improved and they can now power slide.
S&S and Atlas are gone. S&S has been replaced by Bandit guns.
Vladof guns all have gatling barrels. Accordingly, their fire rate starts out somewhat slow and increases as the barrel spins.
Maya, the new Siren, does not have the phasewalk ability.
Improved character customization. Not sure what this means yet.
Custom decals and/or accessories can be attached to guns. Unsure how exactly this will work and what effect, if any, this will have on the weapons.
Enemies will now interact with their environment and each other. Some enemies can even buff and heal their allies.
Eridium is a rare material that can be used to upgrade your guns or give stat boosts to your character. Not sure how this works either.
Missions are now dynamic, and can change as you are doing them.

I never ended up finishing the first game. It was really fun in co-op, but it felt like it had a lot of ideas that didn't really come together right. It looks like they're really looking to improve with the second game though, so I'm looking forward to it.

My only question is: Will there be so much fucking BROWN this time? That's the only thing that bothered me about Borderlands 1. Aside from maybe 2 places, everything was brown and boring to look at.

Judging from the pictures we have now, it doesn't seem like it'll be all brown all the time, but you can never tell. Especially when said game is 2 years off.

There will be more variety to the environments, that much we know. Might still be predominately brown though. Don't know yet. Also, adding more info to the top post. Damn Kindle.
