Traditional animation?

I mean rather than the cost of it just getting way expensive. But are there any shows left that are drawn with pencil and paper these days?

I guess I am going through nostalgia remembering He-Man in all its rotoscope glory or even Macross Do you Remember Love? All of those had awesome art and it was all done by hand back in the day.

Today there is a lot of equally good looking stuff but it all feels so bombastic or 'too' clean just a little grit of the human touch instead of the ultra-polish of the digital age would be nice once in a while.

Also whatever happened to the image request thread in this forum? (though I can guess why it vanished)

But yeah do you guys have any whatever happened to? Moments in contemporary art entertainment (from animation, to comics to games?)

My feelings on animation in American theaters is similar. I can't remember the last time I saw an American animation film in theaters that wasn't CG animation. Makes me sad, I miss them.CG is nice and all, but I don't see why it has to completely replace the old drawn animation.

Politics? A change in style? The fickleness of the masses?

I actually just left questions instead of answers, but I think all of my above questions are a part of why classic animation is no longer used widely.

In true fact, many animes and some animated movies still use traditional animation in a sense.

They only use computers to assist in colouring. The cels are still hand drawn.

Most famous of these to use such a hybrid of methods is Studio Ghibli. Famous for Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away.

Although, even this Studio is slowly making way for 3D animation.

People want things faster and more efficient. They cannot afford to pay hundreds of animators and artists and wait 2-3 years for complete production of an animation.

Sad, but, it's the way the world is progressing.

Miyazaki Hayao is a true artist(Off topic, I know.)

I always thought his movies were mostly hand drawn, with only some graphics added in as a dessert topping.

It is sad, in a way, that production has come to outweigh art itself.

At least these anime are pretty to watch, granted I doubt anyone would watch them if they weren't.

Yah I think this is what is really doing it. The man-hours involved are insane for traditional projects and budgets only go so far these days. Studios want the big turn around unless the creator gets full control over the material, but that is rare these days. I do hope, however, some of the skill is not lost entirely. I mean one electromagnetic wave and there goes this generation's memory capsule >< It never hurts to retain the hand-crafts.
