The name is misleading with communist countries. Think about it, do the leaders People's Republic of China really care what the people think? (or have a republic at all for that matter?)

I understand what the name of the Soviet Union is, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the U.S.S.R. was Communist.

Joseph Stalin was a Marxist, heck he even got kicked out of a Catholic school because he studied Communism/Marxism.

It was my understanding (perhaps incorrectly) that Marxism came before communism. Lenin updated some of Karl Marx's practices by developing Marxism-Leninism, which would develop into Communism under Stalin.

If I recall correctly, the Soviet Union was communist, but the USSR is socialist. So much for socialism leading to communism.

A capitalist country decimated Communist countries in world wars, as well as beating the largest communist power in both an arms race and space race albeit to the moon.
Communism has never worked the way it is supposed to, yet capitalism never fails. Even though it doesn't help the nations people, it does what it sets out to do. Make a hierarchy of wealth, in which everyone almost has the opportunity to rise.

On paper, socialism is the best. Communism is supposed to be for the people and capitalism for the individual.
