Part 1: Installing Remote Joy Lite 0.19 (Vista)
Download the file here first: (DOWNLOAD)
1. Extract the RAR file into a folder (you need winrar installed to extract this). The files inside should look like this:

2. Plug your PSP into your PC via USB and activate USB connection. Now check the root of your memory stick if you have seplugins folder in there.
>>If you still don't have, copy the whole seplugins folder from your extracted file that you have downloaded and paste it to the root of your memory stick. Proceed to step 3.
>>If you already have seplugins folder, copy the RemoteJoyLite.prx file in your extracted RAR file into the seplugins folder of your memory stick. Then, on your Memory Stick>seplugins folder, check for a game.txt file. Open it and add this line:
ms0:/seplugins/RemoteJoyLite.prx
Press CTRL+S or save the file then close it. Proceed to step 3.
3. Turn your PSP off completely (Hold the off button for a few seconds until it shuts down), then go to the recovery menu (switch on the PSP while holding the R button). In the recovery menu go to plug-ins and enable RemoteJoyLite.prx (if you have previous installation of the traditional remotejoy, disable both remotejoy.prx and usbhostfs.prx). Now exit the recovery menu.
4. On your XMB Menu (Desktop of your PSP), run a game (while the PSP is Plugged to your computer via USB). You should be prompted with this message: (Image 1.1) Select "Locate and install driver software" option, then "Dont search online", "I dont have a disk", "Browse my computer for driver software (Advanced)", then browse for the LibUSB/driver folder in your extracted RAR file (LibUSB/driver_x64 if you have a 64bit computer). When finished browsing, click next and you should be prompted with a Windows Security Warning. Select "Install this driver anyway". You should see a driver installing bar next. when done, you should see this successfully installed message. You should also see a pop-up balloon at the bottom right of your screen.
To check if you have properly installed the PSP type B drivers, go to your My Computer press right click>properties then select device manager, you should see the list of your installed drivers. Check if you have LibUSB-Win32 Devices in there (Do this while the PSP is plugged to your computer via USB and running a game, otherwise it wont show).
5. Next go to the root of your extracted downloaded RAR file and run RemoteJoyLite.exe. At this point you should see your PSP screen at your monitor.

Part 3: Getting Familiar with Remote Joy Lite 0.19
- F1: Toggle FPS Display - Switches FPS display on the upeer right of the RJ Lite screen on/off.
- F3: Toggle Screen Display - Switches screen display of the RJ Lite screen on/off.
- F4: Toggle Title Bar - Switches the title bar and RJ Lite's border on/off.
- F11: Screen Capture - Takes a screen shot from your PSP and save it as a bitmap file (*.bmp) in the capture folder.
- F12: Start Video Capture (If enabled) - Starts capturing the video, the file will be saved at the capture folder.
- CTRL+ENTER: Toggle Full Screen - Sets the RJ Lite Screen fully/normal.
- ESC: Settings: Shows settings options.
After successfully installing Remote Joy Lite 0.19, you might want to install or update the codecs in your system.
What are Codecs?
Codecs are the ones responsible for Coding and Decoding your compressed media files, specifically video files and audio files. Different compressions require different codec to decode the media stream. So if ever you play a video file compressed with a codec that's not installed in your system, you will not be able to play it.
Remote Joy Lite have the capability to encode your recorded stream into various popular codecs, unless these codecs are installed properly in your system, you cannot watch your recorded video.
To fix that, you need to download Cole2k Media Codecs. This contains all of the codecs you'll ever need for recording. Just install, restart and your codecs are good to go.
======================================================
Part 4: Setting RJ Lite For Capturing (with or without sound)
- First things first. We need to set Remote Joy Lite for capturing. Just press ESC. to activate settings. now click on ETC tab. Put a check on Keep aspect ratio, Always on top and Keep adjustment by full (Image 4.1).
- Next click Capture tab, put a check on Enable Avi Capture and set FPS to 60 (Image 4.2). Click the codec button to set your codecs (Image 4.3). I personally use XviD MPEG-4 Codec. Clicking the configuration button will bring you to the Codec configuration option (Image 4.4), set according to your preference.
- Just remember, compression degrades quality. Higher quality means more disk space consumption but crystal clear visuals of course; while higher compression means you'll be saving a chunk load of disk space by sacrificing the quality. If you have the resources (E.G. highdisk space), then go for the lesser compression.
Now you're ready to capture videos. Just press F12 while playing. the captured video automatically saves in your Capture Folder.
Setting your RJ Lite to capture sound
- First you will need a Male-Male 3.5mm audio cord.
- Plug one end to the earphone plug socket of your PSP and one end to your mike plug socket of your PC (the pink one on most PCs).
- Refer to the diagram below:

- Run RemoteJoyLite.exe and press ESC to activate settings. Click on capture tab and check enable wav capture (Image 4.5).
Now everything is set. When capturing a video through RJ Lite, it also records a separate WAV file in the capture folder with the same file name as your recorded video file (e.g. 20090216003546.avi, 20090216003546.wav).

Part 5: Video Post Production Techniques
After capturing, you might want to put some flavor in your videos. Add music maybe... or cut some trash parts. There are different programs used to edit videos, here are some programs that pops into my minds as of the moment:
- Adobe Premiere
- Windows Movie Maker
- Camtasia Studio
- Avid Express
- Sony Vegas
Of all Windows movie Maker (WMM) is the most popular, it may not be as advanced as the others, but its easy to use and its free. It comes free when you have window based operating system. I personally use Adobe Suite to edit videos, but its quite expensive so I wont bother explaining here how to edit videos using that. You may request though, if ever many people requests Video editing tutorial using Adobe Suites I might include it here too.
Basic Video Editing (Windows Movie Maker)
First you need to be familiar with WMM interface: (Image 5.1)
- 1. Task Pane
2. Primary Toolbar
3. Preview Pane
4. Timeline/Storyboard
5. Media Library
Task Pane - Contains the most popular and frequently used commands, this is used for shortcut and easy access.
Primary Toolbar - The commands to control the entire WMM.
Preview Pane - Plays and preview medias on your library like videos and audios, it is also used to preview the final output of your editing.
Timeline/Story Board - Here you can edit, cut, put subtitles and some kewl stuff for your video. You can also add your own audio to your composition. To swith between timeline and story board format refer to this image: (Image 5.1). Timeline Editing is mostly used than Storyboard.
Media Library - Contains all your imported media files that can be used for your composition.
Setting Pixel Aspect Ratio
What is Pixel Aspect ratio? Pixel aspect ratio is the ratio of how pixel size are compared to others with regards to width. Here's a comparison of a square vs wide pixel ratio: (Image 5.2). Resolution is different from pixel aspect ratio, making 720x480 (4:3) different from 720x480 (16:9).
There are 2 commonly used pixel aspect ratio in video encoding, and that is (4:3) and (16:9). (4:3) is used for normal video aspect format and (16:9) is used for wide video aspect format. I would prefer you to set your composition's pixel aspect ratio to (16:9) because PSP recorded videos in RJ Lite by default are set to (16:9), otherwise you'll have a distorted video or a video with black background at the top and bottom.
How do I set my pixels aspect ratio? Just click Tools in the menu bar then Options. Click the Advanced tab and set the pixel aspect ratio to (16:9) (Image 5.3).
Importing Medias
You just need to press import media and select all the media that you will use for your composition. All imported medias will be visible in the Media Library.
Splitting Videos in Sections
Select a video that you want to split in your Media Library and double click it. It will automatically play in the Preview Pane. Press pause then select a split point by dragging the timeline bar. Press split to split the videos in two.
Adding Audio in the Audio Track
The timeline track has 3 parts. Refer to the diagram I made. I colored the parts red, green and blue: (Image 5.4)
- Video Track
- Audio Track
- Title Track
All media in your library can be dragged here, but of course, audio (mp3, wav) can only be placed in the audio track and video files (mpg, avi) in the video track. Just drag a music file from your library to the audio track and your good to go. You can add as many music as you want. You can adjust the start and end part of your music by dragging the front and end parts, you will see a red arrow marker while dragging to indicate music cropping.
Adding Titles
(note: vista procedures may be different from xp procedures and vice-versa)
To add titles you just need to click Tools from the Menu Toolbar and click Titles and Credits. Alternatively you can click Titles and Credits from the Task Pane (Image 5.5). You will then be brought to the Title Creation Wizard.
- Title at the Beginning - Creates a title animation at the beginning of you composition. Title goes within the video track.
- Title Before the Selected Clip - Creates a title animation at the beginning of the selected cut. This is useful if you want section titles in your video. Title goes within the video track.
- Title on the Selected Clip - Adds a title overlay in your selected cut. This is the only title that goes in the Title track. You can also adjust its duration by dragging the front and end part of the title after adding the title.
- Credits at the End - Credits at the end, no need to explain.
All titles can be customized for its font, font color, animation and transparency.
Adding Transitions and Effects
To add a transition, just select Tools in the Menu Bar and select Transition. It will then provide you a list of transitions you can use. just select one and drag into the cut between 2 clips (Image 5.6). As you can see in the transition sub-track, you'll have your transition merging your 2 splitted clips. Again you can adjust the transition's duration by dragging the front and end parts of the transition.
Effect however, are different from transitions, for it is applied within the clip. To add a video effect just select Tools from the Menu Bar and select Effects. You will be then provided with a list of effects you can use for your composition. Just select an effect and drag it within the clip in the video track. A star will be present in your clip to indicate there's an effect applied to it.
Publishing
When you're done editing, all that's left is compiling your composition. To do that just click File in the Menu bar then Publish, alternatively you can press CTRL+P. You will then be provided with a Publish Movie Wizard. Just select This Computer, click next, enter a file name for your movie and browse where you want to save it, click next, specify the movie details (I will explain more about the settings on part 6), then click Publish.
