Basically pick your top 10 animes. If you have watched less than 10 put at least 5. Maybe put a small overview in there like I will.

For me, it is:

Evangelion- Fast paced, purified epicness of ridiculous proportions with a couple of giggles early on. Could really connect to Shinji and Rei and felt much deeper than anything else I have watched. The plot does get quite complicated, but you should survive ;) . Whoever it was that recommended this to me, I love you.

Bamboo Blade- Probably the most emotional show I've watched, loved every character. Awkward moments and laughs with lots of dramatic irony. The fights were heated and had my heart pounding. Beware, there is a sequence of 3-4 consecutive episodes which all end in a huge cliffhanger. Have lot's of free time.

Black Butler- A combination of just about everything. Great fight scenes, lots of awkward moments and quality comedy. The ending was well done, but I felt it was let down slightly by the fact that you always knew it was coming. One of my favourite watches of the year.

Darker than Black- Loved the fighting and interesting and emotional plot line. I CANNOT wait for an english dub of the movie.

Elfen Lied- I can't remember who recommended this to me, possibly as a joke troll, but then it got serious and I watched. For me, I think this was as, if not much more emotional than Evangelion and pulled on my heart strings with ease. Simply amazing, I loved it even if NSFW. The opening theme tune is one of my favourites of all time. Do not watch this if you are weak of heart, you only have to watch the first scene to understand why. If you watch a lot of anime and want something a bit different, this is what I recommend.

(Bamboo Blade-Elfen Lied are all equal)

Eden of the East- Gorgeous animation and unique plot line add together to make a truly great show. Only in third because of how short it was *sadface* Watch the movies as well.

Death Note- Dark and thought provoking. I loved it for it's puzzle qualities and those moments of "Oh. So that's how it worked". Ranked down for the ending which I personally didn't like because of portrayal of charcter's characters (If that makes sense), and the seemingly cheap ending. Otherwise a great watch.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya- A fun light hearted frolic of a series. Constantly made me think "Did they really just do that?" Nearly a must watch but it won't be for everyone. Again, amazing animation.

Cowboy Bebop- A catching series that made me smile at the end of every episode. For me I only really started to notice a main story towards the end but still a good watch. Brilliant ending.

Moribito- There is no rest for the wicked. This show never seemed to not have a huge fight. An acquired taste. Nice animations with good character development. Another fine ending.

Gundam Wing- Ranked way down here 'cuz I didn't like how long it was and the long drawn out scenario's. If it had been condensed to 26 episodes, it may have been better. Bit of a bore of an ending, but it still made me smile.

Silent Mobius- Had it's good and bad points. Good characters and main figure. Ultimately down here due to an uninvolving storyline and poor ending. One or two good emotional peaks.

Basically, from this you can probably see that I like character development and relationships, with a few intense action scenes shoved in there. You could say a bit mainstream, but when no one around you watches anime, you are the mainstream. Give me another Bamboo Blade or Eva and I will kiss you.

EDIT: Added a few more series to the list

1. Coyote Ragtime Show
--- Alas, you were only 12 episodes long. Coyote Ragtime Show (I call it Ragtime, for short) had a plethora of amusing characters and quotes. It was fast-paced all the way through, yet it had an ending that made you go "Aww...". I definitely recommend it for when you're stuck in on a rainy (snowy?) day.

2. Burst Angel
--- Probably one of my favorite series ever. It's pretty much just BREASTS and ACTION. It's a very fun series with one of the most badass heroins ever.

3. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan
--- Seriously. Nothing. But. Epic. It's a bit stupid at first (it's stupidly epic, though), and it stays pretty stupid for a few episodes. After that, though, it's a hardcore thrill ride about an oppressed human race and giant face-robots. Kamina is seriously the most inspirational/ridiculous/amazing character in the history of anime that I've seen (and probably just anime in general). Definitely a must-see if you're into action. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll ROW ROW FIGHT THA POWAH.

4. Solty Rei
--- Amazing. Solty Rei is an Action/Drama about an ex-cop ex-father who's been bitter at the world ever since he lost his daughter. I absolutely loved the characters in this series.

5. Shakugan no Shana
--- I really liked this one. It was a bit disturbing at times, but overall it was a fun series. I always enjoy watching cold-hearted badasses warm up to stupid failure tag-alongs. That's what this series was, except with more demons and katana-wielding ten-year-old girls.

6. Trigun
--- The series deviated from the manga, but it was alright. I love Vash, I love the setting, I just love it. Really, though, the manga is better.

There, you can have 6 since I'm too lazy to think up 4 more.

mhmm i think 10 is too many but i'll give it a shot, they are in order btw 1 to 10 top to bottom.

1, Claymore
This is a relli good manga/anime even tho they deviate a little, the story is about an organization who has warriors known as claymores which combat against yoma (demons/monsters so to speak), the claymores do this by being half human half yoma using the yoma's powers whilst maintaining a humans intelligence and control. As the story develops sinister secrets are revealed and the plot thickens more. In my opinion this is a very good anime and should be further developed.

2, Bleach
Kurosaki Ichigo is a normal high school student, but his world gets turned upside down when he meets Kuchiki Rukia(maybe misspelt :P) a shinigami whos purpose is to guide lost spirits to the afterlife and stop hollows at all costs. After this chance encounter his world is never the same again.

3, Naruto
In a ninja world dominated by power and jutsu there is a boy named naruto a gutsy ninja whos dream is to become hokage and earn the respect of everyone around him, as he sets off on his journey only 1 thing is certain, he will become Hokage !!

4, Death note

5, Code geass-lelouch of the rebellion

6, Gai-rei zero

7, Blood+

8, Katekyo Hitman Reborn

9, Darker than Black

10, Devil may Cry

Only the top 3 get a small synopsis :P u'll have to look up the rest.
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you don't know for sure. But it doesn't matter.

I don't place any value in ranking, for I love all anime equally. :P I'm just inputting anime I think are among the best of the best of the best.

Now...to business!

1. Code Geass-Epic storyline, and epic ending.

2. Fate/Stay Night-One of the best anime of all time, and the English dub kills anyone who isn't deaf at thirty paces.

3. Shadow Skill-One of the best anime I've seen. Slightly obscure, and ridiculously bloody. This anime English dub makes me sad just thinking of it...

4. One Piece(manga mostly, at least for me.)-One word: all engrossing gomu gomu action...Well, that's more than one word(Five actually), but you sorta get the idea...

5. Blood+-This anime shows blood like its name can only hint at. Best Vampire anime of all time-I think.

6. Outlaw Star-This anime did two things for me: 1. It introduced to me the wide awesome world of anime, and 2. It introduced me to Cat-Girls. Aisha Clan-Clan. If you love Cat-Girls(I know you do YOU CAN'T HIDE IT!!!) then you should know of Aisha Clan-Clan: the girl with no tact.

7. Ghost in the Shell-The movie wasn't that good and the anime are just copies of the manga, with a new idea thrown in every once in a while. The Ghost in the Shell manga is one of the greatest classics in all Japanese pop culture. It will rock your socks...unless your not wearing socks.

8. Slayers(Any and hopefully all(I haven't seen the new seasons yet.))-This is possibly one of the greatest anime ever to be made. It has humor that doesn't involve porn/gore to make you laugh, and the storyline is engaging. +9000 for Slayers(Especially Lina).

9. Dragon Ball(Z and maybe even GT...maybe.)-The Dragon Ball series is the Forefather of all anime today. Bleach/Naruto take heavily from this revolutionary anime/manga's legacy. Don't knock DBZ until you've watched all episodes(in Your language, and Jap Sub), and have read all of the manga. By the time your done your going to be to old to remember why you began to read it in the first place...maybe that's a bit of an overstatement.

10. Busou Renkin-From the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, comes Busou Renkin. This anime/manga is among the best to pervey, as its humor is funny, yet disturbing, and its combat is epic, yet human...sorta. I recommend this one for the otaku fans looking for something new to watch/read.

Personally I find that most Animes never do justice to the Manga so I can be really picky with what I watch.

1. Code Geass hands down - Have yet to see a Anime that competes with it, a perfect melding of mystery, mech, action, and sci-fi and everything else a guy could ask for.

2.Full Metal Alchemist - both where good but I like brotherhood more

3.Gundam(series) - Specifically aimed at Seed and Wing, Gundam Wing introduced me to Anime alongside DBZ I can still remember my dad yelling at me and my brother to go to
bed and us begging to let us stay up because DBZ and Wing where only on once a week at 10pm. Seed is my favored out of the many series of gundam, best mech designs
great voice acting and actually came out when I was alive (anything pre 1990) as well as many other reasons.

4.Fairy Tail - They tend to overplay jokes in the show that the manga has used but stay pretty true to the authors telling of the story, the composer has done his work well the music is some of the best
I Have ever listed to.

5.Naruto - Needs no introduction

6. The world God Only knows - Can't think of a single complaint about this and am eagerly waiting for season 2 to begin.

7.Death-note - Potentially one of the greatest animes of all time, until you get to the end and it goes down hill... Really fast

8.DragonBallZ - As mentioned above it was what got me watching in the first place so how could it not have a place in my list.

9. History's Strongest Disciple - Started the show differently from the manga and animation was cheesy at times, they ended the show just as it was getting really good.
I wish they would pick it up again i think it would do really well.

10. Spawn - Dark, bloody, delicious?
Often in ones own madness resides genius. Thus for a mind seeped in madness, the imagination is limitless.

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Samurai Champloo
3. Trigun
4. Ruroni Kenshin
5. Ghost In The Shell
6. Fooly Cooly

Not much of an anime guy. I can get in to the older stuff, but the new crap is pretty uninteresting to me.

Still need to watch Big-O and Outlaw Star.

Not much of an anime guy as well, did watch a few though. No particular order:

1. Blood+ - Great anime and storyline. Maybe a little draggy, but its been a while since I watched.
2. Death Note - AWESOME. But with all the notes passing around it gets confusing.
3. Fate/Stay Night - Also great.
4. Black Cat - EVE!!!!!!!!! Hands down the best character in the anime.
5. Shakugan no Shana - Definitely in the top 3. Waiting for Shana 3 if Wikipedia is correct...
6. Tears to Tiara - Not bad, not bad. And err...not bad.

Not a lot...

EDIT:
7. Ghost in the Shell - Yeah. Forgot this one.
