So, for current news...How about the insanity occurring in Egypt?

Scary...
I heard that Anderson Cooper was clubbed in the head ten times, or something...apparently all media(or a good deal of them) are being targeted. This isn't a conspiracy theory btw...

Please no doom and gloom talk in this thread. No conspiracy theories, and no political views.

Oh yeah, If any Admins/Mods don't like this topic, then delete it. Now my butts covered...sorta.

I saw that on the news last night.

There was supposed to be heavier, more intense fighting today. I don't think it's going to stop until each side gets what they want and frankly, both sides WON'T get what they want.

The president is adamant on his staying.

The people want his ass off his bloody seat as the president.

I am not too worried about him. I am more worried about what comes next. Well worry is too strong a word. Curious......

I get that odd feeling that this is all the pudding on a much larger cake....for someone....

Have you heard of the earthquake in New Zealand? Here's the Yahoo! article and a picture:

Hard to believe that a 7.4 earthquake could do this kind of damage...O.O

I've lived through a 7.6 quake, this is on par with that event. This damage is not uncommon to areas not used to quakes or where they're infrequent enough the building code doesn't stress quake safety and structural robustness so as to withstand these events. Not sure about New Zealand though but this seems to be the outcome of that sort of thing.

Apparently there was an earthquake in the same area a year ago, which caused this earthquake to be compounded upon that one because the soil was soft after the previous quake. Yeah...I'm going to live in a grass hut when I grow up. :P

From what I heard it was a 6.3 quake but was centred on the city.

The city isn't built for earth quakes thats why theres so much damage.

Well, naturally. New Zealand isn't exactly one of those geographically-prone places where you can expect frequent quakes in the first place. The Ring of Fire is a different story. And, I don't really know, but isn't 7.6 richters huge? IIRC the tsunami incidents were caused by similarly strong or even slightly weaker quakes in different spots.

Actually there seems to be a zig zag like fault running from the north island through the center of the south island in New Zealand, but I can't attest with certainty which plates they are.

Basukesu, I applaud your superb English. I wonder, is general Engrish really that bad there in Japan as the stereotype would have people believe?

Anyways, my condolences, TobyaG. I hope it's far from where you live?

While English is my second language I learned it rather young. I was also raised in America so I guess that did the trick. English in Japan is hit or miss. You will discover many people understand a great deal of written English and the young understand a great deal of spoken English. However, due to many reasons, they are deathly afraid of speaking it. As a consequence, their spoken English can be rather poor. Though I tend to categorize it as just another "English" among the many dozens of variants in the world now.

Interesting developments in Libya...Your thoughts Mionegarde?

I tried watching one that was 1:06, but when I got to the image of the guy being given what I HOPE was first aid on the table and all of the redness on his stomach...Yeah.

I wonder which dictator is next...?

It's also interesting to note how many music stars are receiving flak for preforming for Gaddafi.

Not to mention the Tsunamis it creates. The tsunamis are going to hit the Philippines, Hawaii, Indonesia, and a few other countries. I heard it on the news just recently.
