Don't worry, the PS4 won't be too expensive. For a long time Sony lost a shizzleload of money everytime they sold a PS3. They'll probably be the same way with the PS4

SCE president Shuhei Yoshida mentioned that some "cool" elements in NGP maybe removed in order to ensure the final product is affordable. They always has a price range in mind. Yoshida also mentioned that NGP can't sell for the same price as a PSP.

Gotta love those quotes, meaning it will be "uncool?" or what? Also love how well the "aimai" (vagueness, fuzzy view) came through on the translation of how it can't sell for as much as the psp (cheaper? more expensive?)

Time will tell the tale.

299.99 is a very fair price for the NGP, imo.

UNCONFIRMED: 01Net reported that Sony has down scaled the specs of NGP. Sony informed its development partners that the NGP will scaled down from 512MB internal memory to 256MB, and VRAM has halved to 128MB. The OS will be scaled down and freed up additional 26MB work RAM. The internal 16GB flash memory has also been replaced by an external memory solution, which maybe a new format with built-in security to prevent piracy. The price of the system is expected to be $250 (WiFi) or $350 (WiFi + 3G).

The wifi one will be like $500 in Australia.

For no reason other than they like screwing us with prices.

We'll hear more on this soon as the year winds down to the expected release date.

All the price points seem rather high to me for a portable gaming device.

The rumored decrease in specs and the removed storage are sort of red-flags to a delay in production due to a revamp.

With everything going on at Sony right now specially here in Japan I wonder if it isn't a combination of things making them cut unit performance to manage costs. I won't lie when I say the economy here is taking a beating and since the quake production on a lot of chips and parts has all but ground down to a crawl. The voluntary decrease in power consumption is still in effect and alternative production sites won't be up and running for a while yet.

Like I said before I'll wait for a second generation run of the device.

Update on Sales as of 12/4/12.

http://andriasang.co..._create_charts/

Seems like it is having a real dismal run here in Japan. I blame the lack of actual titles for this. Sure it had a ton of decent games out at day 1, but given what gamers expect out of a portable PS3....they all SUCK.

This system either needs a price drop, a major franchise game (MH, FF), maybe both, or Sony needs to put this down(a-la-PSPGo) and focus on it is pre-existing core units the same way it did with the PS2 which trounced technologically superior consoles during its life-cycle.
