It seems that we need a general movie discussion thread, so I figured I'd make one.

I'll start.

The Man From Earth

The Man From Earth is a relatively low budget film about a man that reveals himself to be 14000 years old. This is a movie mainly aimed at people who enjoy an intellectual discussion. If you're looking for something to happen, you will be sorely disappointed. It's centered around one man's living room, with a number of his friends, who are all university lecturers in different fields. He confides his age, and it sparks some debate.

I found it to be excellent. The historical accuracy was a nice change, the topics were stimulating and deep. This is a movie to watch with other people, as it will spark debate.

I'll disregard the post above me and instead reply to the OP.

That movie was amazing. Action or not, it was an incredible movie to watch. Out-Standing.

I'll put that on my list of movies to watch Cleric.

One of my favorite movies is
"Lost in Translation" people either hate it or love it.

It's kind of an atmospheric movie and if they doesn't do anything for you then you won't like it.

I watched the Man From Earth a few years ago and went out to buy it. I loved that movie. Refreshing change from action packed science fiction.

Mirror Mask
A fantasy film written by author Neil Gaiman (Anansi Boys, Good Omens, Stardust, American Gods) and produced by the Jim Henson Company. Instead of puppets, there is a large amount of computer editing and animation. Very wild visuals. Somewhat reminiscent of the Labyrinth. A young girl whose family runs a circus ends up in another world. Mistaken for a princess that had caused some upheaval, ends up on a journey to stop darkness from consuming the world. It's not all that action packed. The visuals are a bit dark.

Stardust
Based on a book written by Neil Gaiman. The movie deviates a fair bit from the book, but does so well. Helps that the author helped in making the movie. The movie takes a much lighter tone than the book. Young Tristan journeys across the Wall, a border separating our world from a realm of magic, to retrieve a fallen star requested by the woman he loves. It becomes a journey of adventure, self discovery, and love. I was disappointed that Robert DeNiro wasn't even nominated for an award for this. His role as Captain Shakespeare, the sky pirate with a secret, was fantastic.

Without a Clue
A movie I've grown up with. One of Michael Caine's earlier films. This comedic twist on Sherlock Holmes has Watson as the brains of the operation and Holmes (Caine) as a somewhat dimwitted, skirt chasing drunkard that was hired to play the part.

The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen
Another older movie I grew up on. Quite the cast in this one; including Robin Williams, Uma Therman, and Eric Idle. The movie starts in Europe during a great war. A theatre troupe bringing entertainment to a depressed city under siege is disrupted by the appearance of the very man whose adventures they were acting out. A fantastic adventure follows, as the man lifts himself by his own boots, sails to the moon, has tea with the god of war and his giants, and more as he relives his tales and struggles to bring his old crew back together to save the city.

The Blues Brothers
They're on a mission from God and they're getting the band back together. Based on a Saturday Night Live skit, this film staring Dan Akroyd and John Belushi centers on the series of misadventures of two blues musicians freshly out of prison attempting to go on a tour to save the orphanage they were raised in. A classic that many will say you need to see. One of the biggest car chases in movies.

Equilibrium

In a world where emotions have become criminal, everyone take their dose and continues through their mundane existence. The organisation that enforces this law is the Grammaton Cleric. A ruthless sect that metes out punishment through their mastery of the Gun Kata.

In my opinion, this is an absolutely brilliant movie, and one of the best I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it's underrated and was overshadowed by the Matrix, as it was released at the same time.

Definitely worth watching.

My Gun Kata is stronger than yours!

It's a shame that Ultraviolet sucked so much.

Gun katanas? You must not have seen it then. Gun Kata is a style of gunfighting that maximises the kill field through examination of past encounters. It's pretty badass.

i even have a copy of that movie. seen it like twice. i misread what you guys wrote hence the barackets and the question mark.
he finds the book mother goose and rescues a puppy, he also attempts to re-order his desk. that should be proof enough.

seen the movie, opinion remainds. nice movie but nothing brilliant, more a rip-off.

If you like Smokin' Aces go watch "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch". Far better movies of the same genre.

Cube

Imagine waking up in a room. The room is a cube. You try to go to the next room, and suddenly your face is melting. Sound awesome? Yes, it's awesome.

Cube may be low budget, but it has an excellent concept. Trying to get out alive. Trapped rooms, moving rooms and crazy people make for a very entertaining movie.

If you choose to watch Cube 2 and Cube Zero, don't expect too much different. It's more of the same with a small amount of plot advancement. Cube Zero probably explains the most, but it differs too much from the original.
