These designs by crypton and yamaha has gave new brith to music, even american tried making a anglish one called "Leon" (reminds me of leon in RE4) And even americans did not perfect it.
For those of you who do not know what one is
It has subs
In my point of veiw, Vocaloid only became popular due to the characters since at first, no one didnt bother to listen to it, till the character came along, bring more light and fandom to the Anime Fans. I think most vocaloid is getting over used since this hugs fandom cluster of Anime Fans
Here are some statistics I took this year at a recent Anime Convention full of cosplays
-40% Naruto/any Shounen
-40% Vocaloid
-20% Any other, tf2, mh, gurren lagann, etc.
Though myself liking/loving anime, the new generation of these has caused quite a riot at a few cons, giving fangirl... lots of fangrils fighting over who is the best or who is "the lover" or some *shiver* fan service. I have seen it happen for 3-4 whole days.
Miku though, has been the one quite overused, kinda what is happening to naruto and other things like bleach.
The nice part though, there is a synthized voice, breaking through in new technology, and a new "Genre" of music. How would you place these voices singing under?
And these programs cost about 150-300$ at the most
What are you'r opinions?

1. Their voices still sound somewhat robotic
2. I don't like most of their songs, but thats just me
3. I cant admire them the way I admire real artists for their singing talent
But I am amazed though on how close they sound to an actual human voice. I'm quite excited to see how well it's technology will develop in a couple of years.
It'd be amazing if they can synthesize a strong voice like that of Whitney Houston but even still I won't put them on par with real artists.

MGS PW miku AI voice is awesome!
and about the fandom, yeah, take out the avatar, and there goes the fandom
so far that i got from wiki, some vocaloid voice is originated from japanese anime dubber
miku : saki fujita (mahiru inami, working!!)
gakupo : gackt (gundam seed 1st opening song)
luca : yuu asakawa (rider, fate stay/night anime)
rin & len : asami shimoda (chika yamada, B gata H kei)
some others aren't that notable lol, my favorite design fall to luca
what i don't get from whatever news say, hatsune miku is 3D idol of this decade after gorillaz
HELLO, miku is a mascot, an avatar, and a sythentizer, which mean, its an instrument called hatsune miku, and they call machine an idol??? what is this? idol machina?
gorillaz is an avatar of band, that is voiced by a mankind through an instrument, its basic is the same, but they aren;t made of machine, not the voice at least
these program doesn't sound like human at all, but hey i don't have any particular favorite singer, so as long it sound good to my ear, which patheticly, any japanese sounded song, sounds ok to me
as of now, i'm interested to get english translated version of this synthetizer

Actually they have core sampled voices from famous actors and actresses. Though it is just their voice characteristics, the songs themselves are produced synthetically using the sampled voice to emit the "voice" characteristics.
For reference
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocaloid
For instance Hatsune, Miku is sampled from Fujita Saki probably best known outside her vocaloid stint for her work in Summer Wars
*just noticed someone else mentioned it. Wiki has the full list if you need more info.

it was at the con at I went, didn't go. but I did hear good things came from it. They had toyota sponsoring her, and had these nice toyota cars, with Hatsune Miku on it. Miku was even on the news here in California. I was a bit... irritated with how this sensation is. Is Japan running out of singers, that they have to make virtual ones?

YES I MAD THEY HOLD IT IN THE USA. The last Vocaloid concert they held near my home was a traditional projector-based performance, not the crystal screen projection magickry. I still mad at Crypton for that.
To be fair, the Vocaloid boom is thanks to Niconico leechers who cross-post PVs from Nico onto Youtube. The only downside is that there's no serious Vocaloid producers outside of Japan. The Vocaloid programs are somewhat a novelty item in the west, but the Vocaloids themselves are a cultural icon now.
I've followed Vocaloid since Miku's debut in 2004, but before that, I knew and cared nothing of Meiko and Kaito and the first/second gen Western Vocaloids. Well, I still don't care about Meiko and Kaiko and the others. Miku's Miku Miku ni shite ageru is still one of my favourites till now, and Innocent would still make me go Miku~n while listening to it. But the newer songs are getting more mainstream than ever. I know that it's way past the experimentation stage for Vocaloids, but them producers, notably Supercell, doriko-P and OSTER Project and some others that I've forgotten, are not keen on churning out tunes other than the ones we can recognize as J-Pop and J-Rock anymore.
My cup of tea would be denpa tracks, just because I can never get used to them to hate them. Prominent producers in that genre would be Bousou-P and my very, very favourite DaniwellP. You guys would probably recognize DaniwellP from the Nyan*7 track the fanbase would bastardize into Nyancat months ago. He does radical songs on the very extreme end of Miku's voicesets, and will probably threaten to burst one's eardrums if not careful.
Also, Vocaloid fans here ought to look for Millstones. This one is a rising star in the indie production stage for Vocaloids. Words cant do me justice in telling you how much I like his or her songs.
You can probably tell from my rant up there that I follow Miku and only Miku.
Also, to those who are mildly interested in this genre ought to try to list the songs under Vocaloid tag from least popular/viewed on Nico or Youtube. You'll definitely discover more favorable stuff than those top end ones.
Also*2, no one cares about Zero-G's english Vocaloids.
This is one of the songs from Millstones' first album. Gogatsu Shoujo, literally 5th Month Girl, or Lady in May.
Kagaribito by Millstones, this was released as a standalone Preview track for his next album, which would double as storytelling through songs. Something like Bousou-P's The Fantastic Garden.
Kotobatoraporato by daniwellp. I would stop trying to make sense of the title and enjoy the sweet, sweet song. This is by far the bestest song by daniwellp. For me, at least.
