So i want to finally finish MHFU before portable 3 is released (ill be playing the japanese version so that isnt long) and im down to about 15 quests left in single player (i have no hope of beating the gathering hall, im yet to start G rank). But these quests are so god damn hard. Im only using gunlances and im currently wielding the hidden gunlance with full high rank Monoblos gear (as well as 8 howitzer gems).

The quests I have left are things like Rajang, Devil Diablos, 2 Black Diablos, 2 Black Gravios, 2 Rajang(the only elder quest i have), Kirin.. a few of them im yet to unlock, but I know theyre there (Akantor, Chameleos etc).

Why are they so difficult ;_________;

Because you only use Gunlances. There's nothing wrong with the weapon class, but you seriously need to consider branching out. I personally use mostly DS, Hammer and LBG, but I can use any weapon class except Lances and Gunlances (the exception is against Lavasioth). Even if I don't really use them against most monsters, I can use them quite proficiently.

Take, for example, Rajang. You'll see people complaining about Rajang Lance Special Training and Rajang Gunlance G-rank Training. Do you ever see people complaining about ranging (bow/bowgun) Rajang? This isn't to say that Rajang is impossible to lance - IIRC Usul lanced Final Invitation quite easily.

How about Diablos? It's gun fodder. Grab a Pellet gun (the Black Gravios LBG Chronos Grenade or the Purple Gypceros HBG Blastion Cannon work well) and PelletS Up, together with Evade+2 (for LBG) or Evade+1 and Evade Inc (for HBG). Pellet Spam the tail.

The same gear works for Kirin.

Dual Black Gravios is easily gunned with a Water S RF LBG. Or just take the Emperor Lao Cannon.

You'll have a lot of trouble when it comes to the last quest - Monster Hunter (Rathalos/Tigrex/Nargacuga/Rajang Marathon).

Because this is monster hunter and its great because of the difficulty! Branch out from just gunlances man.. rajang is damn hard to lance / gunlance. So is kirin, kirin even more so.

I have one save where I only use Great Swords.
I have one save where I only use Bows.
I have one save where I only use Hunting Horns.

I love the challenge of not branching out. ^ _ ^

I'd agree with Solyeuse though. Monsters are generally easier with certain weapons. If you just wanna finish the quests, branching out would be your best bet.

However, as the others say and as can be seen in a lot of videos, it's possible to beat every quest with just one weapon type.

I've noticed that all the quests you mentioned are Bowgun fodder (except the Elder Dragons, mostly, and Akantor). Water S the Gravios, Pellet 3 the Diablos and Kirin, Ice S/Normal 2 on Rajang.

You should have no trouble Gunlancing Akantor, and there's a recent thread here somewhere on gunlancing Teostra. This should also apply to Lunastra. If you're too lazy to make Corpse Blades for Chameleos, it's Bowgun fodder as well. Unfortunately, I have little experience when it comes to Daora - I only ever DS him.

Im an extreme lance purist, i use only one lance and one armor set for everything. its easier for me, i have more money, and ppl dont have to wait on me to change sets after each quest. it can be done, just learn the monster and experiment with different tactics. dual rajang for example. i use all bombs and traps on the first one to kill it as fast as possible, then i take my time with the second, focusing and getting good hits in, not being greedy.

if you want to branch out, by all means do, it definitely wont hurt you
Playstation 3 Monster Hunter, where art thou?

If g rank monsters are wrecking you, that might mean yr being careless or getting greedy with pokes. Make sure you have the strongest upgrades or just stock up on max and ancient pots.

Also armor skills play a big part in downing g quests. Can't have you bouncing then getting lolcharged right?

Also, consider using high defense armor + rarity 8 or lower weapon and practice on Nekoht's quests. The monsters in those quests have high rank HP's but G-rank AI.

As well, there's always G-training.

Yeah im finishing Nekoht, im only HR 6 in the gathering hall.

I dont really want to change weapons :\ Looks like i have to do it the hard way. But those videos did remind me of how i beat low rank Kirin and I think I know how to beat Rajang.

I have about 6-7 days left and im going away for a bit in a few hours so we'll see how many I can get done. Hopefully all of them >_>

Super hyped for portable 3 afterwards :D

I think branching out to one or two weapons would do the job for you dude and that's the HBG and LS (or Hammer). You need to fight Black Grav and Kirin and Rajang right..? HBG would work very well with water s on grav and pellets will work wonders on Kirin. Rajang might be some trouble for you but as long as you keep moving to the left of his attacks you're good. Unless it's long distance, sheathe your weapon and dodge that zigzag charge! As for Devil Blos and Black blos I longsword them. I heard hammer works better but I like to hammer them. My strategy is usually for blos is to slice the tail off when it charges and make sure to get it stuck for the free hits and to break the horns. After you manage to slice the tail, every time it charges, poke at the legs then swish away. Flash if you must but just know it's kinda of a desperate method.
I know you don't want to branch out but you must. It's way too hard to be using only one weapon.

Well I gave em a good shot and I have 9 quests left, 5 of which still arent unlocked. The available ones being dual rajang, kirin, 2 black gravios, devil diablos. Managed to beat Akantor which was pretty awesome though.

I dont see how im going to beat dual rajang or devil diablos. Dual rajang I cant beat the first one in the 10 minutes and then the other arrives and im screwed. Devil diablos has waaaaaay too much health and I run out of time. But im this close with gunlance now so I'd rather not change. Any ideas? :\

dual raj = sleep bomb. job done. 3 bombings on the first one and its capturable. usually doable within 10 mins. always circle it clockwise and go for its flanks or hind legs.

Devil blos is annoying. honestly try the HBG pellet spam. much easier, but it'll still take you the guts of the 50 mins to finish, jus so ya know.
Give me a sword and I'll give you a dead wyvern.
