Uhm, the best weapon of each type to use against it:

LS: Wailing Cleaver Shin
DS: Prototype Chainsaws
HBG: Lol, i forgot the name. Its the HR8 Azure Lao cannon.

I dont use LBG normally.

Uhm, skills you may want:

Evade+2 - Really nice, but i find that because of los' attack styles and hitbox setup, this may not be as good against him as it would be with other monsters.
Evade Inc - VERY good. roll out the way of those damn homing charges ftw?
Crit eye - very good, i find this would work better than attack up with the above mentioned weapons.
Element Up - Pretty good, not as useful with the HBG since id suggest pellet spamming and then shooting thunder or so, but hey, who knows?

I would go through but theres alot of skills. lol.

Ok, Silver Rathalos takes more damage on his wings than any other part with cutting damage only. LS, and DS. He will take more damage, as i found out a ways back, in the legs with shot damage. HBG, and LBG. Of course, he will flinch more often if you shoot him in the wings, but that doesnt mean he will be taking more damage. Still, id go for the wings iwth pellet and peirce since they are big and wide and can take multiple hits. Thunder shot works wonders with them. But as stated before, if you aint got ele up, dont worry about it.

I have a question, what armor are you trying to use? And what weapon do you feel most comfortable with fighting it? I know how you may feel, silver los HR9 version is completely random and at some times, unpredictable.

Khezu thunder rapes sil los. My Imperial thundersword downs him in less than 30 mins.

Oh but you don't use those. Wailing cleaver shin + evade = win! Unless you use the step tactic when he roars. Other than that, aim for the wing. And beware the aerial fireballs, cause in rage mode he likes to do it twice.

Magnitude Hammer + Flashbomb = Pawnage

even noobs can destroy this monster under 25 minutes..

but without flash you can try using GS and use the rajang x set,
silver rathalos loves to fly so you always had a chance to triple charge
when his going down after the fireballs..

Take a hefty Great Sword to the fight.

He goes up and down, up and down so much, just time your charges close to him (wind cancel while charging) and destroy those wings.

indeed, but then, he has to center his armor around that weapon doesnt he? and using a fully offensive armor and not the skills he feels safer with would leave him more vulnerable than before wouldnt it? besides, its roughly a 2 hit flinch on the wings of silver with shin. pretty good if i say so myself.

Thunder element weapons opens up the head as an alternative target for cutting weapons. Very useful for weapons that succumb easily to wind effect (i.e. Lances :P)

Wing: 50% cutting, 30% thunder element
Head: 25% cutting, 30% thunder element
Neck: 35% cutting, 20% thunder element
Legs: 35% cutting, 10% thunder element

Well, lances use impact if it's stronger, so shouldn't you be aiming at the head anyway? :3

Nope, you should always try to aim for the wings as much as possible.

RAW Damage formula:

[ATP x TYPE x SHARP x HITZONE x DEFENSE x RAGE x VAR] / [CLASS] = Total

=========================
3e: Class Variables [VAR]
=========================

Normal Stab \
Upward Stab > Use .72 when Impact does more than Cut
Unsheathe /

Charging: Use 1.12 (Cut) and 0.81 (Impact). There's a somewhat fixed pattern
                                                         in which it occurs.

You're basically down to 72%~81% power when your attacks are dealing impact-type damage. It's still best to aim for cutting-type weakspots.
The only good things about the Lance' type-switching is that:

1) you'll still be dealing more damage than you would if Lance was pure cutting damage; and
2) you have reasonable versatility in terms of breaking parts (Daimyo shells, Blos horns, etc).

For silver los case, to optimize your damage on the head you should use thunder element since it's not affected by the lowered raw VAR when on impact type. It helps that Naar Thunderlance has massive thunder element value :3

@kidkaos the armors i usually use with long sword would be sometimes butterfly x armor, or the red shogun crab armor, and for DS i use the kirin X armor which is really nice, for gunner i use narga X armor with congalala for the head, and skilled up with pellet up. im not too particular about which armor i want to use i just wanna kill him.

That Obituary/Butterfly X gemmed for Sharpness+1/Sharpening Skill Inc/Evade+2 would be just about right.

I would recommend any HBG that can fire both Lightning and Water shots. Then equip a shield on it and you are safe from the roar.

As for armor skills, Auto-Reload/Speed Fire is a must, any other skills is up to you. Skills that increase your damage output would do, such as Element Attack Up, Reckless Abandon and maybe Bullet Limit for more combination of Water/Lightning shots.

Sets that I would recommend: Auto-Reload, Element Attack Up, Evade Distance Up (Need One weapon slot)
Spoiler

Or: Auto-Reload, Element Attack Up, Reckless Abandon+2
Spoiler

And if you worry about the push-back due to the roar or doesn't want to use the shield: High Grade Earplug, Auto-Reload, Bullet Limit
Spoiler

^ this, but if you just want to kill it, bring flashbombs too and leave the cat so he's less likely to spin in place.

for fun you can TP hammer or GS charge his head when he's landing.

Flashed silver los = tail whips galore. It has nothing to do with bringing a felyne.

Kirin Horn X/Narga X/Shinobi (Heaven)/Kirin X/Butterfly X (All gunner except the helmet)

Gemmed, you get AutoReload/Element Atk Up/Evade+2, or

Full Narga X with Blango Cap Z

Gemmed for Speed Fire/Evade+2/Evade Distance Up.

Take in Ten-Thousand Volts (G-rank Rajang LBG), Lava Storm (Lavasioth/Terra S. Ceanataur LBG) or the HR8 Lao-Shan Cannon and bring Water S, Thunder S and Normal 2, as well as combines for all the above. If you're using Lava Storm, you can bring Pierce 3, but I advise against it. Start by practicing rolling the roar with your Evade skills - you can do this on low-ranked Rathalos.

Load your elemental shots and try to get as many hits as possible on Rathalos - remember, both Thunder S and Water S are pierce shots. When you're down to Normal 2, aim at the legs.

Taking a hammer would be best, but if you want to use your current armory the above works. LS should work too, but I'm not too proficient at fighting Silver Rathalos with it.

seems to spin less when fought ranged. chances of tail whips increases when you're shooting too close or when a cat pesters it.

if using water or thunder shots, method is to shoot in a + pattern, that is head-body-tail or wing-body-wing with the first one the best.
