So are bows just crap? They take three or four times as long to kill something as any melee weapon? or am i missing something? Ive come to believe that the melee weapons are pretty balanced with the exception of the hammer being a bit above the others, but i wanted to try the other weapon types.. but i dont like bowguns. So i made full rath s and the akantor bow and it feels (and also i have read) like bows are just underpowered here.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION? Do you think they are underpowered?! Perhaps you can show me videos of bows doing great things, or some of you bow users can tell me your speeds on killing monsters or why you like bows!

Bows are NOT underpowered.

I can take out a high rank quest with two mofofish (aka Plesioth) faster with a bow than with a great sword.

Some bows are better for some situations than others, but they most certainly do not suck.

Supposedly MH is to be "realistic", to some extent. Turn them dragons into pin cushions

But i guess after witnessing gameplay of MH2, the developers nerfed it.

Never played MH2, so I don't care. Besides I don't see bows as a real killer, heroics/adrenaline aside, to me they're just a support class. (status coats+wide area+abstsup=perfect multiplayer set)

My opinion? Bows are lacking damage wise. HOWEVER, they have great mobility, are a ranged weapon that can cut tails, AND effectively have infinite ammunition.

So, bows are a useful weapon if you want to be ranged, and just don't want to screw around with Ammo combos. As I said, they seem lacking in attack power, but I have one thing to say about that: Pierce. You'll wreck quite a bit fairly quickly if you have a pierce bow.

I never cared about justice and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero... I have always only fought for the people I believe in. If an enemy appears in front of me, I will destroy it!

I'd have to agree with Hguols on the most part.

If you just take any old bow of the proper level for your target, it may be less effective, but not underpowered. Choosing a bow with the most useful element and shot type is key. Rapid can be used on almost anything, but won't do as much as pierce against something large, such as Gravios.

The bow's strength lies in it's speed, both attack speed and mobility. The fact that you can easily move, quickly take aim and fire, and both dodgeroll and backstep, makes the bow quite useful.

It isn't a fast killer, but if you're in a party, like Chaa said, it's extremely useful. Your fight will go much easier with a competent bowman.

Yes, the melee attack on bows does a fair bit of damage, and does both cutting and impact damage. Unfortunately, it has very low range.

As has been stated, bows have high mobility, infinite ammo, and good reach. The downside is they have one of the lower damage outputs in the game. This doesn't mean they're bad, it just means they'll generally do less damage. You can still kill anything solo with them, it will just be a little slower in most cases. They can work better on some monsters, like Plesioth and Basarios, and make breaking parts on Lao easy. The right bow and tactics on a monster will allow them to work well, but it will still tend to be slower than if you used an equivalent level of another weapon properly.

If you think hammers are overpowered, wait until you see GS at end game.

I like bows more than bowguns. I find the controls to be more intuitive, but maybe that's just me.

Also, Swordfish bow G w/ Abnormal Status Atk Up/Scatter Up/Focus/Evade+1 just rocks.

I've wrecked many a Tigrex in a respectable amount of time with a pierce bow.

I personally think they suck. Can't stand them. But that's just cause I suck with gunner types and find no enjoyment in using bows.

I like Bows. More specifically Rapid Bows. Can't Piercebow to save my life (mostly).

At any rate, I don't think they suck. You can Heroics bow without Evade+ more easily than LBG/HBG - plus I find they're useful enough to have a good armory of bows around.

To be frank, I like it for the backhop. With Naruga gunner armor I could backhop through a gravios sweep lol

While bows may take longer to kill a monster, they aren't overpowered.

You sacrifice a bit for damage to be highly mobile and do ranged attacks.
So in that regard I think they are balanced.
If they did too much damage no one would melee and everyone would use bows.

I "love" bows... If my friends would not request that I use a melee-weapon here and there, I would not use anything else ever.

Personally, i dont give *peeep* about the appearntly lacking raw damage. Picking the right bow for the right beast and you will ttoally rape it if you brign a bit of skill.
Not only element-wise, also the correct pick between pierce or scatter can do the difference, along with a decent skill in reading the situation and deciding when to attack like a rabbid diabolos or adjusting the position and escaping an angered assault..

If you master the bow in its aspects, what could possibly hope to stand in your way and survive?
Bad idea of the day: Giving your pet khezu a bath.

I think its a cool weapon but hopefully the gap between killspeeds with it and melee weapons will shorten (not completely of course) in mhp3
