well they did boost damage for pellet up skill for MHP2G and MHFU that plus evade inc(though it's not really necessary) makes shooting even a g-rank kirin a breeze.

shoot kirin from behind the head so he does the kirin flip, 1:28


btw, you can also use pellet shots on kushala, it won't bounce off his steely hide.

you gotta HBG and lance kirin in training anyway to get the reward so you'll learn how in the end.

Because missing a stab to the horn = bounce = eat fucking lightning bolts.

Also, come G-rank:

Bigger kirins = bigger lightning bolt coverage = more difficult to avoid lightning bolts.
Bigger kirins = higher the head = more difficult to upstab the head. Unsheathe attacks won't work because you'll be hitting the body, which is = bounce = eat fucking lightning bolts.
New lightning charge + zig-zag hops = Kirin all over the place = more stamina required to keep up, unless you sheathe your weapon which is = killing your offence. Then when you finally do close the gap, it unleashes a barrage of lightning bolts which you either have to get away from or block, which isn't exactly dealing any damage.

It might not be so *hard*, but it's nowhere near as piss-easy nor as intuitive as Hammer/GS/Pellet HBG'ing Kirin.
