Too bad he's still on high rank and doesn't have access to everything you just mentioned.

He said rank 9??? So I assume he's got access to this and more no?

My bad if I misunderstood ><

Still the gear is HIGHLY effective I recommend it to any HBG user.

Yes they do =) Here in Japan when I run ad hoc party and we do this at least 50% of the time he is taken down with Souken weapons. They just wait on his wings or tail and when he shoots his beam they just go to town....it is actually pretty sad to watch, poor thing never had a chance....

Well, I would seriously consider HBG despite the fact you mentioned you did not use ranged weapons. Lao Shang's HBG is very very very nice >=)

Any HBG capable of shooting water shots at rarity 9 should do just fine though.

Armor Suggestions (Sorry I only know the Japanese for these)

Red Furufuru helm (yellow icon one for melee)
YanGarurugaS (For Gunners, blue icon color)
NarugaArmPieces(Yellow Icon ones not S for gunners)
Red Furu Waist piece (yellow icon color for gunners)
Naruga Legs (yellow icon once again for gunners)

Use jewels to boost dodge and earplugs and you will be one tough Mofo to take down. In fact, exactly 47 water rounds from Lao's gun will down one Gravimos Ashu and 43 pierce rounds at level 3 will down another one. So yeah...there you go....easy peezee. The entire run should take about 12 minutes total.

12 minutes for a lao shan HBG on a felyne elder quest? is that average time?

EDIT: probably it's meant for g-rank black gravios-es.

Yes when I do it, Nekooto only though, guild ones take forever. I average 10 to 15 minutes on this. The key is to take them down one at a time. Plus Lao's HBG has a high attack compared to most and can load a variety of high powered to elemental rounds. I use the Felyne buddy as fodder and just go to town, the earplugs make the difference I find and the high evasion means he is shooting the wrong way all the time, the only other tip is to watch the reload timer on the regular level 3 pierce rounds, they take a bit longer than the elemental water rounds do. Other than that he should not touch you at all and you'll even break his chest plating. If you want to brave a boomerang or two I am sure you can swipe a tail too heh heh. I also keep those claw thingies in my inventory...no clue what they're called in English.

thanks for the advice. i hope you don't mind trying out mine since i also use HBGs. try using evade+2 instead of earplugs to escape his roar sine he doesn't roar often, even if you get deafened, you can still roll out of his laser beams. it just takes parctice. also autoreload is better for water shots (and other elements), lao hbg takes forever to reload.

i think you can improve your time by a lot. :)

He mentioned 9-star Nekoht. Also, he posted his equips, all of which were high-rank (Lacerator Blade + Tigrex S).

Obviously, using G-rank equips on high rank monsters will obliterate them easy.

probably runs out of health potions by the time he takes on the 2nd.

do you bring/combine potion and honey to get another 10 megapotions?

bring also herbs and blue mushrooms.

and stay away from those fire farts! go for the wings to be safe if you're a sword user.

but really, range weapons pwns the big guys. you should learn to use them.

EDIT: well i guess you don't need anymore advice.

I always bring potions, herbs, mega potions. And for this quest I also took 2 max potions with me, to be on the safe side.

& meh, advice on this one is always welcome.

GJ Lost Venom. It's always more satisfying to defeat monsters with your weapon of choice rather than using other weapons just because it's the easy way to do it. ;)

the idea is to bring items to combine for more powerful potions so you can outlast the monster in terms of health.

like you can only bring 1 ancient potion. but you can bring 10 kelbi horns and immunizer for 10 more ancient potions.

This. Get your hands on either Kirin S or a set with both element up and sharpsword, the Guild Saber duals and tear those fat bastards up.

Ok. First things first....

Equipment:

Weapon: HBG when possible to get what you want (Don't forget to bring bombs and traps.. Flashers should hold him for a few good shots, but after wards, well, that's on you! If you must use a melee weapon, DS (Order Sabers or any of the upgrades), GL (Something with Spread), and H (One of the Cean weapons or the Anvil Striker [the one before blacksmith]) should be enough with the armor listed below...

Armor: Tigrex S= No-No. First, if you must use this armor, then gem it to get rid of demonic protection. Demonic Protection will cause you to lose 130% health 30% of the time... That's getting the Heat One Shot 30% of the time, which in turn equal fail. Cean U would work, if you go the blademaster's route...

Also, be advised that this hunt will be a prereq for G Grav in the future...

Nuff Said.

A lttle advice for GS users his to use Charges on him. If hes not in Rage mode, you can use your cat to distract him and after firing a beam you usually can get a free lvl 3 Charge on him. Its the same for a hipcheck. Just walk around him, and before he turns to you can send lvl 3 Charge his way :3

When I read 'A little advice for GS users' coming from a guy who needed help, directed to the members of this site, I lol'd.

Armor with (Guard Inc) + (evade+1 or guard +1) + SSP + water GL/Lance = Dead Black Gravios... at least thats what I did and killed both with lots of time left in the round.

But then again, I busted my ass for the SSP, and as for the armor, haku would be nice but takes crap loads of Lao-runs to do, if you know how to evade with lances, something with evade+1 and guard inc will give you more openings for attack.
