Headsets are not mandatory but do help a lot that way you dont hear feedback when you key up. That is the main issue with many voice serves and even skype and msn. When you have a mic and speakers if two people start to talk you can get massive feedback. Once again its not mandatory, technically to use vent the only thing mandatory is the vent program because even if you dont have a mic you can always listen in, so it's just an option.

Talking can improve most games, although i dont believe monster hunter is one of those. I will admit however that communication is important in any circumstance and will benefit everyone.

It helps when youre trying to set up traps or do certain things like cap a monster and someone keeps hitting it. Plus it's fun to hear people scream when they are being chased by a Tigrex non stop jeje.

Ventrilo sucks. Tried it when MHtri came out in Japan and everyone ended up going on Skype.

Vent can be fun, but after using it on WoW and FFXI it just weirded me out. But it depends on what groups you are with I guess. It is for sure not for everyone but it is a nice option to have and it can help to organize things on the fly too =) Ad hoc party anyone?
