Ventrillo is a system much like skype.

Instead, you have a single place where everyone can meet up and talk.

Think of it much like Xlink kai and Adhoc party rooms. Except, everyone inside the room can hear everyone else.

I wouldn't mind Ventrillo, comes in handy when playing cooperative games.

"Why Not"

I would, but I don't see much sense in EVERYONE being in the same room unless there are sub rooms (which it probably has). I don't remember how Vent is. I use Team Speak instead for games like Bad Company 2 and others. But if Vent is going to cost the forum money, I would say whats the point when everyone can connect through Skype if they wanted to which also allows video chat. That's something I'm pretty sure Vent doesn't do unless they really upped their ante. (Hope I used that expression right :P)

Ok let me clarify a few things:

1) Vent is a voice server that allows many people to converse with each other at once, something that msn and skype does not do due to there being a limit on how many people can talk on one call. Teamspeak is the same as ventrilo but with less codecs. People who know about voice servers know what I mean by codecs.

2) Ventrilo is used by far a lot more than other voice services due to its low cost on your computer. What I mean is the bandwidth is near non existent. It only becomes a problem if you have a bad internet connection and even then, you'll have more trouble with running a web browser than ventrilo. Granted this is not a program issue but a user's internet issue.

3) There are sub rooms in the main channels, which allows for people to separate themselves form a large group of people.

4) Due to it allowing an infinite amount of people on, Ventrilo is a great social area for people who just want to banter on about nonsense or communicate with a group on a hunt.

5) It can be voice activated so that the only sound people hear is your voice, unlike skype or msn there isn't an option for this so you hear everything.

6) The Ventrilo will not cost Minegarde anything due to the fact that it will be paid for by someone who already has it, that being me.

7) While I use it for other games, it will be dedicated to Minegarde. Admin will be determined by myself and other staff members based on people's working knowledge of voice servers and RCON commands.

8) Did I mention it's a great social place to be. No typing and still gets to talk to people.

9) I'm not trying to eliminate the #socb but give people an option when hunting with people. HotGamerMum and I have used it while hunting on Tri and even she agrees it is rather useful.

10) It's fun.

11) It also has cookies and milk. :P

Ok I ran out of reasons so there is my argument and I hope to see you guys on vent. Depending on the outcome of this poll I will be posting the information for it soon.

I've used vent for counter strike and it worked out pretty well (been awhile though). It would be worth it as long as we had a "steady" stream of users.

I agree and that is why we decided on this poll.

That sounds great, but what would I need to get to use it? A microphone, obviously, but what about headsets?
