I didn't want to wait anymore! Assuming its ok with staff/mods, I'd like to devote this post to my run through the game (a.k.a. shenanigans) using only Hunting Horns. I will note that my only experience with hunting horns before this run is solo training missions. Anyone and everyone feel free to question, comment, answer, heckle....

(by the way, I might make one great sword to do tail runs later)

It begins!
___________________________________________________

I made a new character. Modeled her after my girlfriend (I'm 12 right?). Tried to get the hair, eyes, face and voice as close as I could. I think I'm a little off with the voice. ._.

I went around talking to the shop people getting rid of the yellow bubble over their heads. I didn't read what they had to say. Totally X spammed them.

Poogie joins my team!!!! ^ _ ^

Went into the training missions and did the hunting horn Melee training. Totally spammed the infinite stamina song and gathered Carnivore egg after egg. Got about 8000 poke points. Sold all the other starting weapons (except great sword) for cash. Helluva start!!!

Blow all the points I could on renovations! Mushroon tree 2, minespot 1, Trenya's boat, Fishing pier 1, Bug Bush 1.

Noticed I needed a giant bone to upgrade my Ivory horn, so I jumped right into a one-star Bulldrome quest. No giant bones, but I did figure out how to somewhat effectively make attack moves while playing notes. I had no idea I could play that overhead note almost instantly in a combo or could press the same button as the note for a hit in the song!

Bought another Ivory Horn because I want to make both upgrades available. (I know, I could have made it cheaper)

QUESTION: So, do drugs and seeds stack with attack/defense up songs? I didn't see a HH FAQ here or on GameFAQs (other than recital notes). ._.

Did a 3-star guild Bulldrome. Lost consciousness twice. ._. Just wearing the starting malasomething armor not sphered up wasn't the smartest idea with a brand new weapon I have little experience with.

Ended up blowing my giant bones on a Bulldrome mask. I hope my girlfriend doesn't see her character wearing a pig mask. Bought leather armor. ^ _ ^

Killed two giadromes. Not too hard. They're not stunned long, so a songsmack session while they're star chirping didn't go over too well....

Made the Giaprey Balloon. Now that I have an ice weapon, I'll make my way over to Yian Kut-Ku....

I don't think I'll try the 3-star bulldrome again until I have a horn with a green sharpness...

I'm pretty sure HH attack/defense buffs stack with anything.

Good work, keep it up :)
Aww, the Hunting Horn, I like it so much. Only thing that annoys me is having to restore speedy movement constantly, it really breaks the flow.

Yes, drugs and seeds stack. You know this because Horn buffs float next to regular buffs - so there's three icons next to your name, rather than two.

Devote that one post, or this thread?

...

...

Can I say "You're not allowed to do non-HH Training School Quests"? You don't need Barrage Piercing since it's a HH only run, and SSP is not really required due to White-White x2 and Pur-Pur x2 - both give Movement Speed Up and ESP.

IMHO good Hunting Horns are not just determined by stats alone, but by notes as well. There's a reason I went for Volcano Alphorn (the Weapon Tree is wrong, it's called Volcano Alphorn, not Volganos Arpa) rather than Basarios Rock, upgraded. Why, because P/Y/Lb is horrendous. P/Y/R at least gets AUL.

Great! That's awesome that songs and seeds stack! MUUUUUUAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!

Limited to this thread. I plan on making posts here as I progress through the game this way.

I wouldn't say "Attacks harder to break" is quite up to ESP standards.... then again, I'm using a horn with yellow sharpness. ._.

I'm not quite sure what note sets are better than others, but I'm sure I'll find out!! ^ _ ^

Boy, seeds definitely stack. I've been filling my garden with armor/power seeds and poop galore. This will also be a source of income too, if I need some quick cash. (selling seeds)

The Yian Kut-Ku went over ok - I died once. I really don't like the songs the Giaprey balloon has. ._. Mid health increase with deodorant. yeah...... -_-

I completed granny's first urgent for some armor spheres. I haven't used any of them yet.

I'm wanting to make fife decorations, but I think I might have to do the next urgent to "unlock" suiko jewels? (I haven't found any yet)

I might take a whack at granny's bulldrome for a giant bone....

Next stop, upgrade mah wehpins! ^ _ ^

if you want to know which notes give what kind of buff you should look in the bookshelf in your home there's a book about songs in there somewhere.
I preffer Purple/Blue/Red the most,
its usefull for almost everything attack up infinite stamina and the 40Hp extra to your hp bar isnt one to forget either and it heals you for the same ammount aswell.

Movespeed and Attack buff is all the buff you'll ever need for solo play; everything else is just a trivial frivolity, given the awesome effects that are bestowed to you when you wield a hunting horn. However, if you're gonna pick a third note, might as well pick one that will provide you with a buff that would be easy to pull off and is generally useful for all situations.

Blue note is not that good as most people would like to think. Infinite Stamina is useless for the HH user since you don't really do anything that warrants having infinite stamina (i.e. Demonization mode, Lance charge and triple hops), not to mention you can't connect it to WWR/PPRR buff combo. HP up buff is good, but it's not worth the time spent on buffing it. I mean sure it heals, but you can basically chug a potion and do an attack or two given how long you have to do the buff. You also already have the cat kitchen to super-size your HP bar.

Yellow note will imo serve you best when soloing. You can easily chain Def+[lo] just by adding a single yellow twang to your WWR/PPRR buff combo. Easy enough to do and doesn't force you to start another buff chain, not to mention def+ is always useful. You also have Ultrasonic sound. Yeah, yeah, sonic bomb does the same job, however! Sonic bombs don't have as much style and macho points, especially when you can kick up that twang on a Blos.

Green note comes next for similar reasons to Yellow note, but it requires you to add 2 notes to activate def+ buff compared to WRY's single yellow. It's def+[hi] though, so it's pretty much you're in your discretion if it's worth activating.

Yes, attack up large is what your going to want to aim for.

I guess flute armor skill also to improve buff time, but w/e.

You want a red note. Full stop, period. I tend to favor P/G/R and P/B/R, but I'll go for P/Y/R if necessary. Thank goodness that most of the good HHs have red notes: Volcano Alphorn/Bi-Coloured Castanets/Brute Flute/Ukanlos HH/White Fatalis Lute. Sure you can go for Basarios Rock/Queen's Flute/Lunar Recorder, but none of them are really up to par compared to the ones with red notes. Out of the elemental HHs without red notes, only Lunar Recorder is worth getting - since White Fatalis is a pain to farm, and let's not forget the BEDJs you'd need.

I'm slowly figuring out chains. With an ivory horn a R/B/W/W/R 5 note song gives me health increase lo, movement speed up and attack up lo.
I consider this useful where I'm at in the game. I can understand how at a G rank, not so much.

I've read the sheet music in the bedroom info, and I noticed that it emphasized the importance of the right horn for the job. You can bet your ass I'll be taking some form of a wind resistance horn to fight Kushala down the road, and not use the same horn while fighting Garuga.
____________________________

Anyway, I've made the bone horn. I'm 8 conga pelts away from making the War Drum, and one Giadrome skull away from making Giaprey balloon +

The poison chamelos hammer looks interesting.

I still haven't looked much into armor skills, but then again - I'm trying to avoid online lists a bit and stick to the in game stuff. Apart from the horn skill, artisan, sharpness, RA, and the evade skills seem like they would be useful with horns.

I showed my girlfriend her character on my game. (showed her in the bedroom change clothes area) She scoffed, said "I don't have underwear like that.". I said "Yet.".
She laughed.

I made the War Drum. I look forward to utilizing the additional defense as well as the attack up!

Even though my Hard horn has a sliver of green, I'd be too anal and sharpening it too much. I'll stick with the War drum and see how it plays out!

Ugh. Next War drum upgrade requires a vibrant pelt. > _ < ....well, breaking his horn was a pain with the bow. It could be a hell of a lot different with a hunting horn! ^ _ ^

Hguols, the Hunting Horn/s you're looking for is/are called Sakura Recorder/Gaoren Bell.

Sakura Recorder gets B/Lb/B for High Wind Res, play again for All Wind Cancel.

Gaoren Bell (P/Y/B ) has a 4-note combo, I'm not sure what, that lands an instant All Wind Cancel. Something like B-Y-B-P, go look it up.

Too bad neither one is available for the first Daora fight.

I personally wouldn't bother with the Wind All buff. Sure, it makes Daora's Wind Aura useless but so does using your Hunting Horn's reach, and you don't even have to buff that in. You're better off spending your buffing opportunities re-upping the movespeed and/or attack up, unless of course you can't buff mid-combat and have to change zones before doing so.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be doing head shots a plenty with the horn..... for obvious knockout reasons.

I've been trying to avoid changing zones to re-activate mah songs. Sometimes, its inevitable.... If I stun a boss, I tend start a quick jam session, and can reactivate them just during their stun. (and still smack them between notes)

....but then again, my current "boss" experiences have been Yian Kut Ku, Giadrome, Bulldrome and a Velocidrome.
(I slaughtered my first Velocidrome very quickly)

Heh yeah, using recital mid-combat is really the biggest hurdle any HH user will have to face. What you're doing is imo pretty much the way I do it too, heh. KO damage counting helps tons too in adding time to your re-buff openings, though I personally never really bothered. :P

Well, if I don't get all my buff reactivated, I roll out of recital mode when the monster stands up. ^ _ ^

Pro tip: Basarios rock is the best Hunting horn, it has cutting damage and bludgeoning too. And it's a guitar. You guys don't know anything about HH. AuL is for pansies. Real men use terrible notes and awesome looks to defeat their opponents.
