Chris Kramer, Senior Director of Capcom Community (US), has disclosed that "Monster Hunter 3" will eventually have a FREE online mode in the US and Europe.

Reasons for this are that they "found some factors in the short-time investigation" that they need to pay attention to. First, the "Monster Hunter" franchise ain't that popular in the West and that a pay-to-play online mode may keep customers away. Second, the japanese version of the game doesn't use the "Friendscode" feature. This means Capcom would have to move the servers which would be a really expensive step.

This may mean that "Monster Hunter 3" will support the good old friendscode system in Europe and the US.

Ryozo Tsujimoto, creator of the Monster Hunter series, says: "We are doing two important things: first and foremost we will strengthen the online mode in the US and European version. Second, we are learning from the feedback of the western players. We are trying to create an online mode they really want."

I say: Yay!

*Nods head approvingly*

I'm glad, you should never have to pay for online play or download content.

This was something I was waiting for emo-biggrin.gif , but does the friends code system mean that we can't do like the 'free-roam' style and just find other random people to go on the hunt with us if our friends aren't online?

I approve of free online.

I am slightly disappointed that the FC system will be in use, but I would prefer F2P with FCs over P2P without them.

Riiight. Because people shouldn't be paid for their time and resources.

Those are some smart business decisions capcom. For once, the cult-level following MH has in the west is working to our advantage.

But we still don't get those sweet magazine items >_<

Sick with it.

I support free online and downloadable content, even with what Bobo and REITO say, since then only the most dedicated people would pay for online and the others would be cool without it, probably just play co-op. Or just solo then go back to Unite.

Thus Capcom would still be in RIETO's situation, so, might as well make it free for everyone else~

But Capcom could always make say high ranked weapons that one could only get if they bought say a figurine, or something. I know I would buy a figurine if it came with a free weapon download. Only it wouldn't actually be free, hm. Capcom could just say that, but put in the cost of an individual weapon into the cost of the figurine. Make a profit. Lose no money...

Your Sovereign says: Yay.

This is great, but I wouldn't mind paying a bit just for Capcom to make some profit anyways...
